2-pyridinecarboxylic acid redirects here, but are they the same?

edit

2-pyridinecarboxylic acid redirects to Picolinic acid. However, the article lists the molecular formula as C6H5NO2, whereas ChemIDplus Advanced lists the molecular formula for 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid as C13H11NO3, but also lists both Picolinic acid & Phenopicolinic acid as synonyms for 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid. Are they the same or different? Peaceray (talk) 20:46, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm very confused. the infobox, and the skeletal structure, depict "pyridine 2-carboxylic acid," but the introduction says it is pyridine 3-carboxylic acid. These are NOT the same compound and only one of them has significant biological relevance. I think that the infobox is wrong and that this should be pyridine 3 carboxylic acid. morsontologica (talk) 01:25, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Scratch all that, I'm an idiot. The infobox and image and introduction are all correct; it's 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid. morsontologica (talk) 01:26, 14 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

It says "It is involved in phenylalanine, tryptophan, and alkaloid production", but is it true ? If true, how is it related ? にょろん (talk) 17:49, 17 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

The mechanisms of picolinic acid appear to be somewhat unstudied. Abstract of report says "wide range of effects." source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22084583 67.167.106.3 (talk) 21:20, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I read that this is a waste product

Is that true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C518:6C40:1C25:1E56:3FF3:FD43 (talk) 02:16, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

yep, as the article says: "It is a catabolite of the amino acid tryptophan through the kynurenine pathway."

Also found in the brain

The information on this page isn't complete; It apparently also has an important regulatory function in the brain. Scienceblog, Aug. 2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.17.167.78 (talk) 19:34, 8 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
