  • The source "Brief history of PNR" is used alot within this article.... this would not be so much of a consideration if it were not a government publication/document. Whilst, of course, histories published by government agencies can be used in detailing the history of those agencies, they should do so in conjunction with third-party publications. As it stands, this article relies too heavily upon "Brief history of PNR" - particularly in certain matters. This can affect the neutrality of the article, as well as its compliance with providing reliable source. See WP:V. ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:16, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Presently, this source is used as the almost exclusive source for the first half of the History section of the article. Other sources should be introduced as supporting evidence. ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:18, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • "According to current maps, the branch lines to San Quintin from Paniqui and to Rosales from San Fernando no longer exist." This sentence should cite a map publication. The map doesn't have to be online, but should include publication details. ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:21, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • "At present, only Southrail is open, as northbound rail services ended in the late 1980s." This should cite a source and also provide a date rather than the general "At present". For instance, "As of 2010" or "Since 2008". ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:24, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • "Philippine National Railways, and the history of rail transport in the Philippines in general, has a very long and distinguished history." This sentence verges on peacocking and violates NPOV guidelines. The sentence needs to be rewritten to comply with guidelines (GA:WIAGA) or else use a source to describe the railways as having "a very long and distinguished history". ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:29, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • "According to PNR general manager Jose Maria Sarasota II, the start of rehabilitation efforts on Northrail and Southrail is set to begin in September 2007.[13] Current efforts will involve the total reconstruction of rail bridges, as well as the replacement of rail track, replacing the current 35-kilogram track with newer 50-kilogram ones.[13] Stations are also set to be remodeled as part of the rehabilitation process.[13] The first phase, convering the entire Metro Manila portion of Northrail and Southrail, is set for completion in 2009.....On July 14, 2009, President Arroyo presided over the launch of the "new" PNR, showcasing its new logo and trains. As part of its new image, Metro Manila services were renamed "Filtrack" from "Commuter Express", and new diesel multiple units were showcased to the public." These paragraphs need to be updated to take account of more recent events. ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:38, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The "Passenger Service" and "Commuter express" sections contain no references. ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 23:39, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Main reassessment edit

To uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of February 18, 2010, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR. This action has been taken immediately because of the substantial problems afflicting this article. The article requires extensive attention and improvement, and is very unlikely to be brought up to GA standard within 7 days. The article has failed GA criteria per the review set out below:

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):
    • Generally of an adequate quality, though could still use some proofing in certain sections.
    b (MoS):
    • There are some problems with wikilinks in this article; see WP:OVERLINK.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    a (references):
    • Whilst the article includes references, some statements and claims are made without referral to sources. Additionally, the "Passenger service" section is almost wholly unreferenced. Improvement needed.
    b (citations to reliable sources):
    • Citations are to mostly third party publications. HOWEVER, the reliance on a PNR publication for a PNR history can expose the article to neutrality problems. Additionally, citations could do with proper formating. The "Philippine Star", for instance, should be italicised.
    c (OR):
    • There appears to be no evidence of OR; however, the problem with referencing makes this impossible to ascertain with any finality.
  3. It is broad in its scope.
    a (major aspects):
    • Addresses major aspect of article subject matter.
    b (focused):
    • Remains focused. No digressions.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy:
    • The problem with certain references (and the lack of in some areas) exposes the article to concerns over neutrality. Using a PNR publication to source much of the history of the national railways, without bringing in other references to back up the PNR history, can lead to charges that the article holds a non-NPOV.
  5. It is stable:
    • No edit wars etc.
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):
    • Images are properly tagged and justified.
b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    • Images are accompanied by contextual captions.
  7. Overall:
    Keep/Delist: DELIST   ✽ Juniper§ Liege (TALK) 08:41, 18 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
