Note About Need For "Source Rock" Article or "Source Rock Maturity" Information
I would like to request that this article's 'source rock' section be improved. It doesn't address the levels of maturity of source rock very much. I think the only other Wikipedia article that adresses 'source rock' and the 'maturity' of source rock is Maturity (geology). Maybe someone (with a greater interest in geology than me) who reads this can create a 'source rock' article, or modify the 'mature rock' article, or improve the 'source' (source rock) section of Petroleum geology. (I am just a translator for Geology of the Falkland Islands who had no idea what 'source rock' or 'mature rock' was nor how they should be expressed in English. I was also looking for a good article to link 'source rock' & 'mature rock' to, so that readers unfamiliar with the terms could easily learn about them.) (AnFu) AnFu 13:50, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I think that a diagram better displaying the 2-d vertical geography of a typical oil reserve (and possible oil pump to obtain the oil) in the ground would be useful. I have been unable to find it within the associated petroleum pages. It is something I would associate with an elementary geology textbook.Jcook5 (talk) 15:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Formation Fluid
Somewhere someone feels that this article defines "formation fluid". I have seen "formation fluid" as a Wikilink as I read about the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion. Could someone here explain what "formation fluid" is? Nick Beeson (talk) 12:06, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- A formation fluid is any fluid found within the pores of a rock, most often this is water (well, strictly brine) but in hydrocarbon exploration it hopefully also includes gas, oil or condensate or some combination, and hopefully also without too much carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide.
