Merge?

Having read both articles it seems unlikely they are the same person, so merging would be folly. The 2 Peter Vardys seem to share religious beliefs but little else. Occuli 20:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Sir Peter Vardy and Dr Peter Vardy are very different people, as is Dr Peter I. Vardy who is different from the other two. Merging would be an error. Peter I. Vardy 21:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Control?

"... he does in fact retain considerable control over the daily running of the schools in his care ..." Is this correct? Given that schools are run by a head teacher and senior management, how does Peter Vardy control them from day to day? One could argue that he has influence over policy and ethos as he appoints the initial board of governors (does he appoint replacements as governors leave? if not, then even this influence will wane over time), but it seems speculative if not inaccurate to speak of "considerable control over the daily running" of the institutions he sponsors. As no citation has been forthcoming I've removed the questionable sentence along with the reference to New Labour being especially sympathetic towards Christian education. While Tony Blair's religious leanings may have been no secret, there is no evidence that the Labour Party is any more or less Christian than the Conservatives, Lib Dems or Scottish Nationalists. Accuracy/bias

Has this article been written by Sir Peter himself? Having read about some of the experiences of Vardy alumni, along with statements by teachers (including former heads), one comes away with the impression that teaching in these schools is, in practice, very much along fundamentalist Christian principles. This is not to mention the frankly despicable lack of consultation with parents and pupils in the planning stages of some of his proposed schools (perhaps as much the fault of local councils and MPs), or the controversy of the premise of so-called Academies in general- another New Labour PFI triumph! I would like to suggest a complete review of the article and the addition of links and references re. some of the more pertinent and important issues. Notably, there is no mention of Sir Peter's questioning in the "Cash for Honours" scandal!

If you have a reference for the cash for questions issue, please add it. Re the article saying how brilliant his schools are, it looks suspicious and I will amend this. Ben Finn (talk) 12:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
