Should this article redirect to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peccary Victorsteelballs (talk) 10:06, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Both species mentioned here are within the scope of the other article. They should be merged. Hoverfish Talk 20:50, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Peccary covers the entire family (3 genera); Pecari is only one of these genera. Beware that it some languages, e.g. French, the common name for all members of the family is pecari (same spelling as the genus), but this is irrelevant to English wikipedia. In general, all major taxonomic levels have–or should have–article on wiki, including families, genera, species, etc. The main exception are monotypic taxa (e.g. Catagonus redirects to Chacoan peccary). Suggesting that polytypic taxa at different levels should be merged would represent a departure from the standard used in animal (WP:ANIMAL#Scope and goals) and plant (WP:PLANT#Scope and goals) articles on wiki. 62.107.216.251 (talk) 12:54, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
