Reason: Pathological alienation means exactly the same thing, an estrangement for no reasonable reason, as opposed to a Reasonable or Realistic Estrangement which would be for a just cause such as abuse or neglect. This is a term used in court, usually in association with Parental Alienation, but is being used to describe family estrangement with adolescents and young adults, too. I just wrote and submitted the article for Family Estrangement
