Compare
editHow does it compare to bzip2 and gzip and compress? -- Michael Janich 15:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- The program? The given command name is shorter, other than that the params are about the same. The format, 7z, usually compresses to smaller filesizes - there are benchmarks online if you're interested. ¦ Reisio 02:13, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- But it is less user friendly: compare "bzip2 file" to "7z e file.7z file" or "tar jcf dir.tar.bz2 dir" to "7z -r e dir.7z dir". The interface resembles that of old DOS compressors rather than UNIX. 81.86.232.182 (talk) 01:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
p7zip is a port of 7z.exe and 7za.exe from 7-Zip, with a couple of port-related limitations (see p7zip's README file). Does it really need its own article, and not just a redirect to 7-Zip or, say, 7-Zip#p7zip or 7-Zip#Ports? --AVRS 10:46, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
