Achievements Section

Should there be an achievements section? I can think of at least core banking, at-par cheques, NEFT and RTGS as his achievements before which we had to run around with cheques and outstation cheques took 45 days to clear. And then the direct tax structure of 10, 20 and 30% that is being followed for nearly 20 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:205:8386:9c7d:691b:11e8:b190:8e5c (talk)

Father's name

Well his name has to be expanded. The P is a plain alphabet, and has no relevance. As an encyclopaedia, the full name should be mentioned. You can mention about the Indian family name somewhere. I'm sure on his birth certificate the full name is mentioned. [[User:Nichalp|¶ nichalp | Talk]] 19:05, Jul 25, 2004 (UTC)

Misleading Content?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._Chidambaram#cite_ref-2

I'm not sure whether the content at this link above is accurate. The article it links to doesn't say so. The statement is misleading & possibly slanderous & malintentioned. I'd recommend deleting it. I'm new here. Can someone advise me how to go about this? Opening a dispute?

Name Issue

He is P Chidambaram and not Palaniappan Chidambaram. Palaniappan is his father's name and not his name. Understand Tamil naming cuture before changing this.

If your father is Kumar Sharma and you are Peela Sharma, will you be called as Kumar Peela? Please note that Tamils do not have a family name or anything like First or Middle or Last name and what they have is a Name and the letter that stands idle 'P' is called as 'INITIAL' that is father's name.

Like you may feel bad being without family name, Tamils too feel bad if your name does not have an INITIAL i.e. father's identity!

I hope this detail is more than enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BrownyCat (talkcontribs) 01:48, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't see your argument. This is no reason for not expanding the initial "P" to Palaniappan. I'm sure his passport (or his MBA degree from Harvard" does not say 'P. Chidambaram'. Cribananda (talk) 21:06, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Rajiv's son Rahul cannot be called as Rajiv Rahul or Rahul Rajiv. Gandhi is a caste name and we Tamil dravidians do not carry aryan system of caste atleast on records and are trying to leave that evil practise and hence we do not have a second name or family name or sur-name. If you want to name P. Chidambaram along with his second name - or family name then call him as P. Chidambaram Chettiyaar - chettiyaar is his caste name. For more details about Tamil Naming system watch at List_of_Tamil_people - in that go to Chief minister's and central minister's list BrownyCat (talk) 08:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Since you seem to be so adamant, let me give you an explanation: Rajiv's son Rahul cannot be called as Rajiv Rahul or Rahul Rajiv. - You don't decide what anybody will be called. They can name themselves after their father, grandfather, city, pet, profession, or movie. I get your point about the initial "P" being from his father's name. It doesn't matter where this initial comes from (it is a personal preference so let's not get judgmental) and the expanded form of this initial is Palaniappan. Please see official sources. The point is that in the article, we must include all accepted versions of his name in use. Again, I'm not claiming that P. Chidambaram is wrong or that he should be addressed at Palaniappan, just that the full version of his name should also be included.
PS: You may want to see the analogous article on Srinivasa Ramanujan. Are you going to claim that it should be renamed to S. Ramanujan? Unfortunately, expanding initials is required for many official purposes ...

Cribananda (talk) 19:06, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

P for Palaniappan is his father name and not a family name or the so called first name. There is a hell a lot of difference between a family name and Father's name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.66.156 (talk) 02:35, 30 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.70.56 (talk)

College

Where did he complete his graduation? This article says Presidency college but the Loyola college website says he did his B.Sc there, as does many other sites. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.254.135.76 (talk) 08:18, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Home minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday appealed to the people of Kashmir to end the "cycle of violence" in Kashmir, and urged parents to ensure that their children did not join violent activities.

"Even while we regret these incidents, I would appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to put an end to the current cycle of violence," Chidambaram said in the Lok Sabha.

Chidambaram made a specific appeal to parents in the Kashmir Valley. "Your children's security and welfare is of paramount importance to us, as it is of yours. I would urge you to ensure that they do not join any violent activities," he said.

The Kashmir Valley has been on the boil for the last 54 days due to violent protests against civilians being killed in firing by security forces. As many as 45 people have died and 180 injured in the violence since June 11.

Chidambaram said there were 872 stone pelting incidents in June and July 2010 and 1,266 security personnel were injured in the last two months.

"It is my duty to point out that security forces conducted themselves with commendable restraint in a highly volatile situation. They have shown courage and fortitude," he said.

Chidambaram said the central government was behind the Omar Abdullah-led state government in its efforts aimed at restoring peace, holding dialogue and redressing grievances of all parts of Kashmir.

He echoed Abdullah's statement Monday that only after peace was restored could further initiatives be initiated to find a solution to the day. Importance information is need to be added. Please don not vandalize article by putting uncensored contents. Thanks

Sex as bribe from Indrani Mukerjee

As per this and this source P Chidambaram received sex as bribe from Indrani Mukerjee — Preceding unsigned comment added by Concerned democrat (talkcontribs) 10:07, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Subject needs to be updated and separate article of INX media controversy should be created.

Chidambaram faced arrest today after he hid for more than 24 hours in Delhi. This should be added in the controversy and separate article should be created on INX media case under which he has to face arrest. Kindly, pay attention on the issue. — Harshil want to talk? 16:26, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
