Tips for developing country outlines

A note concerning redlinks...

Many of the entries (and their links) are standard across all of the country outlines, to aid readers, especially young readers, in comparing countries to each other.

So if this country doesn't have any of a particular entry, like navies, please don't delete the entry. Instead, complete it with "none" (and a brief explanation as to why, for example, "- x is a landlocked country with no ports"). If the explanation exists in an article on Wikipedia, then click on the redlink and create a redirect to that location. See Wikipedia:Redirect, WP:Section linking, and Help:Section#Section_linking.

Standard redlinks (article names) were also chosen based on how country coverage tipically expands. This makes the standard names for these subtopics widely available and easily accessible. So please do not remove those redlinks, for they will turn blue eventually. In the meantime, they can be redirected to the section of whatever article has the relevant information, if any. See Wikipedia:Redirect, WP:Section linking, and Help:Section#Section_linking.

Please check and fix the government section

The government section needs to be checked for accuracy. The initial data placed in the government branches sections was generated by template, and the data didn't fit all countries.

So those sections need to be looked over, and fixed if needed.

IRRELEVANT and unencyclopedical in first 4 paragraphs: Homosexual relationships recognized as legitimate

Wikipedia is getting too full of these non encyclopedical comments, how can in an encyclopedical introdcution of 4 paragraphs it be even relevant that Uruguay "was the first Latin American country, and the second in the South American Continent, to legalize same and different sex civil unions at a national level in the year 2007." Uruguay was among the firsts countries in the world in many many other relevant things like 8hr work day, labor rights for preagnant women, women voting, and many other things that could perfectly also be there... it´s a valid comment, but absolutely not encyclopedical to place it in the first 4 paragraphs of a country with almost 200 years of "being the first" in many relevant things... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.134.201.72 (talk) 19:00, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

It's the first ranking country in LA for Human poverty index and the second in the world. It's the 1st in the corruption perception index in latin america. It will no doubt be the first country in the world to fully implent to all it's populatoin the OLPC program. First south american country to compete in soccer olympics, and it won, it was the host and winner of the first soccer world cup. we either start adding all these things in the intro or we remove that comment and move it to the "modern Uruguay" section...

Eliminating RFC detritus

As far as I can tell (from VP Archive 78) the RFC for elimination of outline articles was closed without resolution on 10-11-2011. Consequently I'm removing the template on this article. Some other articles need to be cleaned up as well. Twang (talk) 01:34, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Quick explanation of Wikipedia outlines

"Outline" is short for "hierarchical outline". There are two types of outlines: sentence outlines (like those you made in school to plan a paper), and topic outlines (like the topical synopses that professors hand out at the beginning of a college course). Outlines on Wikipedia are primarily topic outlines that serve 2 main purposes: they provide taxonomical classification of subjects showing what topics belong to a subject and how they are related to each other (via their placement in the tree structure), and as subject-based tables of contents linked to topics in the encyclopedia.
