How do we know this shark only has one fin? edit

If only one specimen of this fish was ever caught, then how do we know that that specific catshark is normally born with one fin? Isn't it possible that this catshark was just another victim of the shark finning industry? Maybe he was caught, his other fin was removed to make shark fin soup, and then he was thrown back into the water. In that case, maybe the only thing unique about the onefin catshark is that it can survive with only one fin.

In any case, there needs to be at least a second specimen caught before I can believe that this shark naturally only has one fin.

If anyone out there knows or has seen another specimen of a onefin catshark and can clarify this issue for me, please let me know.--Beezer137 19:45, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
