Talk:One Night In Bangkok

Latest comment: 18 years ago by Jeffq in topic Merge and renaming

The lyrics of the song are really cool

The lines of the song

"One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster

The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free

You'll find a god in every golden cloister

And if you're lucky then the god's a she "

Brings back fond memories of my times in bangkok, if somebody can come up or point me to what the entire or bits of song mean i would truly be interested !

Thailand

edit

Wasn't this song banned in Thailand?

  • Not sure. If you can source it, it'd be good to add to the article. Hedley 28 June 2005 22:00 (UTC)

This Washington Post article mentions it in the third paragraph. http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:WPIW&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=0EB3612B856FA23A&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated4&req_dat=0ED95E2E72BD2A9A

"chess boys"?

edit

The lyrics mention "chess boys" in a Tirolean spa. What are these referring to?

— Could the boys mean simply the chess players? In the spa town of Merano (there is a song "Merano" in the musical, too) in Tyrol (→Tirolean), northern Italy? The singer is talking about weird places for chess contests, right?

Merge and renaming

edit

This article should be titled One Night in Bangkok, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Album titles and band names. Because it isn't, we now have a problem. The correct title is now an article about an "live-mix CD", which I seriously doubt is anywhere near as famous as the Chess song. I've added merge tags to both articles, with the idea that the new stub article about the mix CD should be added to the substantial song article, after which an admin will have to move this article to the old title (because ordinary editors like myself can't move an article over top of another with a non-trivial edit history). ~ Jeff Q (talk) 08:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
