For city names which are not unique, disambiguation alternatives are also being presented. Formal request for page move may follow after a reasonable time of discussion. History Bias
The section on History has a very strong bias towards the Gordon Family, perhaps it needs to include more references and needs to more inclusive to the entire city. --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 08:55, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
The section on Olongapo Mayors also is not accurate. Former mayors were excluded from the list: Teddy Macapagal, Olongapo OIC Mayor from March 1986 to November 1987 is excluded from the list. Mr. Jaime Guevarra (City Mayor from 1967 to 1968) is excluded from the list. Mr. Ildefonso Arriola (Municipal Mayor from 1962 to 1963 during the time of President Diosdado Macapagal and OIC Mayor from November 1987 to February 1988 during the time of President Cory Aquino) is also excluded from the list.
Excerpts from Internet documents show terms of office for Olongapo mayors from 1986 to 1988. See below.
“However, the case was overtaken by the Edsa Revolution of February 1986 which saw respondent Mayor [Gordon] ousted from office following a revamp of the entire government. In a Memorandum dated 19 March 1986, Atty. Teddy C. Macapagal, Olongapo OIC Mayor vice Gordon, reversed the summary dismissal of petitioner and ordered him to resume the performance of his duties as Chief of Hospital. Submitting his Comment dated 30 June 1986 in G.R. No. 73449, OIC Mayor Macapagal explained his decision to reverse Gordon's earlier order, taking the position that the former mayor's summary dismissal of petitioner was irregular and illegal, to wit:” Source: http://www.lawphil.net/judjuris/juri1996/nov1996/gr_107841_1996.html “On 11 November 1987, Macapagal was succeeded by Mr. Ildefonso Arriola as OIC of Olongapo City. Arriola forthwith issued a directive to the petitioner to cease and desist from further executing the duties and functions of Chief of Hospital effective 13 November 1987, on which date another physician, Dr. Antonio M. Cava was appointed as Officer-in-Charge of Olongapo City General Hospital, effective 16 November 1987. A memorandum was likewise issued by Arriola explaining his prior directives. In response, petitioner sent OIC Mayor Arriola a letter dated 2 December 1987 explaining that he was legally holding the position. Petitioner continued to perform the functions of Chief of Hospital. Thereafter, the first local elections following the EDSA Revolution were held, in which respondent Gordon was re-elected Mayor of Olongapo City. On 3 February 1988, respondent Mayor extended an appointment to Dr. Concordia A. Ligad as Chief of Hospital.” Source: http://sc.judiciary.gov.ph/jurisprudence/1996/nov1996/107841.htm. Another Internet article published in English and Tagalog dated Thursday, June 23, 2005 entitled MAYOR BONG’S MASTERPLAN STRESSES LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM FOR OLONGAPENOS identifies 11 former Olongapo mayors over a period of some 40 years including Arriola, Guevarra and Macapagal. “Buhat ng maging lungsod ang Olongapo, some 40 years ago, nagkaroon na ng labing-isang (11) punong lungsod dito na sina: Ruben Geronimo (appointed, 1959-62), Ildefonso O. Arriola (appointed, 1962-63), James L. Gordon (elected 1966-67), Jaime Guevarra (take-over 1967-68), Amelia J. Gordon (elected 1968-71), Geronimo Lipumano (elected 1972-80), Richard J. Gordon ( elected 1980-86), Teodoro Macapagal ( 1986-87), Richard Gordon (elected 1987-92), si Cynthia G. Cajudo ba ang tumapos ng term ni Mayor Dick nang ito’y naging SBMA Chair? (elected 1995-2004), at incumbent Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. (elected 2004). “ source: http://subicbaynews.blogspot.com/2005/06/mayor-bongs-masterplan-stresses.html Knight of Rizal 04:45, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
