Original research/uncited information

edit

Quite a lot of this article currently needs citation or reads like original research. The style is also overly sentimental. I've pruned a bit, but more work needs to be done if someone wants to tend it... Bunnyhugger (talk) 05:08, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

1957 Opening Date of Ocean View Amusement Park Incorrect

edit

Ocean View Amusement Park roots go back to 1896. Sometime before 1901 a ferris wheel was added to the grounds. A charter for Ocean View Amusement Park was granted by the Virginia Corporation Commission on August 18, 1903. The company soon after built a build a switchback railway (an early version of a roller coaster) and a toboggan slide. The May 1957 news article you cited that states Ocean View Amusement Park opened on April 13, 1957 was referring to the annual Spring opening for the 1957 season after being closed during the the previous Fall and Winter. The article was not referring to the Grand Opening of a new amusement park. Sources: "$100,000 Compress Co.
