This article is looking good, but needs to have actual citations added (in addition to or instead of the external references). Look at Help:Footnotes and Wikipedia:Citations for help with the formatting.--Tinned Elk 22:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Important article for Long Island history

edit

Billy Joel's interest was an indication of the role the Carousel once played. Now that the Carousel itself has been permanently preserved in the museum, and is operating daily (summers) in a setting only a few miles north of where it originally stood, it will not decline into a mere trivia question. It is a living link for contemporary Long Island children with their parents', grandparents' and great grandparents' popular culture, and popular entertainment before the mass media, that is rare in American suburbs. Steeplechase is gone forever, but the Carousel has survived. I just saw an excellent PBS documentary about Steeplechase last night, but it leads nowhere, and memories will fade out with the Boomers. The Carousel, surviving in the present, awakens questions among the children about 20th century Long Island history. Wikipedia, happily, is here for this "teachable moment." The site should be expanded with pictures. The Carousel is quite a work of art. The Ferris Wheel, now permanently on Barnum Island, could be added. As a professor myself, I believe that colleagues at Hofstra, ten minutes drive from where the Carousel stood, would be interested in this subject. Finally, we must all thank Billy Joel for his years of support. Profhum (talk) 18:35, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposal: Split furniture section off to its own article

edit

There is no tie between the furniture section and the rest of the article. I propsoe that the furniture section be separated into its own article, with hatnotes cross-referencing the articles. However, the furniture section shoudl be assessed for notability first; if it does not meet the notability standard, it can be deleted entirely. Dovid (talk) 15:18, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

In addition, may need semi-protection from a vandal going by the name Joely Nunley, but primarily editing anonymously (IPv6 addresses). He keeps adding this weird rambling British bloodline for the family name, which is probably bogus, aside from being non-notable and completely unrelated to the article.
