This article needs attention from an expert in linguistics

In my edit of this article, I corrected the translation of the Shahadah (which previously had Muhammad's name given in the accusative when it should have been given in the nominative) and added diacritics to clarify the use of nunation in the Shahadah. I also added IPA phonemic transcriptions, added links to several other Wikipedia articles on Arabic orthography and the diacritics, and edited two sentences that made prescriptivist remarks about nunation.

The article still has numerous problems, however. It focuses primarily on the use of nunation in Modern Standard Arabic, but does not provide any citations for these claims. Only one sentence in the article is cited, discussing nunation on dual nouns in Akkadian without providing any examples of this feature or explaining how "it was dropped in the Old Babylonian period". The article also does not explain the origins of nunation, nor how it behaves in Classical Arabic, in the regional varieties of Arabic, or in other Afro-Asiatic languages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.98.24.10 (talk) 05:10, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Nunation is used daily in spoken language of media and education

(1) Nunation is heavily used in interviews, shows, lectures, and speeches. These are not "Literary Arabic" texts. These are examples of "Modern Standard Arabic" (though it is also called Modern Written Arabic here: [Written Arabic]), used daily in media, shows, lectures, and speeches. (2) Using the word "borrowed" in "In spoken Arabic, nunation only exists in words and phrases borrowed from the literary language" does not seem to be right. Almost all words and phrases in spoken are "borrowed" from classic/literary/standard/old Arabic! FSabah (talk) 14:22, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
