Talk:Nickel sulfide

1. Preferred IUPAC name is incorrect. "Sulfanylidene" is the sulfur analogue (=S) of the keto group in ORGANIC chemistry. It should only be used in molecular organic compounds. The correct IUPAC name of this compound is nickel (II) sulfide.

2. There are several different nickel sulfide phases known, not just NiS. These include Ni9S8 and Ni3S2. As is evident from the formulae, they are not typical valence compounds, and contain Ni-Ni bonds. This is true of NiS, also.

3. Millerite is just as stoichiometric as synthetic NiS; it just a polymorph with a different crystal structure.

No time to chase up references just now, or I'd make the edits.
