Path toward improvement

I am really, really disappointed to see that someone would redirect this article. A character that gets over a 1,000 hits on Google Books and even more hits on Google Scholar, including ones that directly cover this specific character as "Like a Mirror Reflecting Itself: Natty Bumppo, The Virignian, and the Fate of the American …" and "The Last Real Man in America: From Natty Bumppo to Batman", that is the main character in a book studied in schools across the country and hailed as one of the greatest of all times, who has been adapted in OVER EIGHTEEN FILMS!! is notable and verifiable by any stretch of the imagination. Personally, i find Cooper almost unreadable, based on two or three attempts to read various novels. Even if I am typical, my personal views are not the basis for Wikipedia coverage. If his works are not appreciated as much as they used to be, their historical importance in American literature is undeniable, and therefore we have all the more reason to cover them fully. Certainly I think this character will be known even to those who have never tried to read the novels--he's a prototype of a major series of American character types. I note that according to WP:BRD, having been boldly redirected and now reverted, it can not be redirected again without explicit consensus. DGG ( talk ) 02:10, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Iowa Connection to Hawkeye

Wrong claim

"... try to stop the incessant conflict between the Mohicans and the Hurons." I don't think this claim is correct. 1. Except Chingachgook and Unkas, there are no Mohicans in the Leatherstocking tales. They no longer exist as an independent tribe, but live with the Delawares. There is, therefore, no "conflict between the Mohicans and the Hurons"; the two Mohicans fight with the Delawares and the English. 2. I don't remember any attempt of the two heroes to stop the conflict. Sometimes in the tales, it seems only natural to fight against the Hurons, as they are depicted as cruel and false.--178.249.4.232 (talk) 10:18, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

"One shot, one kill" Really?

Just like in the article on The Leatherstocking Tales, I have taken out the quoted phrase "one shot, one kill" from this article. In the first place, the phrase does not occur in any of the five books. Putting the phrase in quotes misleads readers to believe that the phrase occurs in the books or that the author Cooper uses it. I have seen more than one place on the internet that cites Wikipedia article on Natty Bumpko and/or The Leatherstocking Tales as evidence for the origin of the phrase. Clearly, it would be better to remove the phrase, because (a) it appears like a quote from the book(s), (b) it appears like a phrase from the character's mouth, (c) it is misleading to readers, (d) it is apparently an anachronism, (e) I believe that the general reader, unfamiliar with the modern term "one phrase, one shot" will expect to find the phrase in the books. 24.55.11.112 (talk) 22:00, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Mark Twain scathingly satirized the Leatherstocking tales in his essay, Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses. Should there perhaps be a mention of that piece in this article?
