Major overhaul

edit

The system is undergoing a major overhaul and transformation. In October 2020 the two methods for input to the system were decommissioned, and as of mid-November the new system is not fully operational and no announcement of availability has been made to the users. The old methods included the desktop long-standing "Data Entry Tool" and a relatively new web interface. The latter produced filenames that would not sort properly (dates coded as month-day-year), quite at odds with the filenames produced by the older tool. Various fire departments have found their way to the new login page and are trying to deal with reporting backlogs. It is hoped that when the system is finally finished and announced, the speed will be much better than the current glacial response.

The page at https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/nfirs/index.html displays "NFIRS availability — Online".

The original announcement of the changeover and several subsequent messages stated that all users would be advised when the system was operational.
