NHS Dental Services

We administer all payments made to NHS dentists across England and Wales for patient treatment. We also produce statistics and key information relating to dentistry for use across the NHS.

NHS Help with Health Costs

We administer a number of schemes that provide successful applicants with free NHS prescriptions and services. These include the Low Income Scheme and Medical Exemption, Maternity Exemption and Tax Credit Exemption Schemes. We also provide Prescription Pre Payment Certificates to help reduce the cost of prescriptions for patients who regularly need them.

NHS Pension Scheme

We centrally administer the NHS Pension Scheme in England and Wales on behalf of over 2.2 million current, deferred or retired members.

NHS Prescription Services

We process NHS prescriptions dispensed in the community in England and provide payments to pharmacy contractors based on the drugs or medical devices they have dispensed to patients.

NHS Protect

NHS Protect leads work within the NHS to identify and tackle crime with the aim of protecting its staff and resources. This helps create a safer, more secure environment in which to deliver and receive healthcare. European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) We administer the European Health Insurance Card in the United Kingdom providing state healthcare for free or at a reduced cost within the European Economic Area. We currently provide 3.5 million cards per year.

HR Services

We provide a range of recruitment and employee administration services to a number of NHS organisations. This includes contractual documentation, payroll, data management, recruitment services and learning administration.

Student Services

NHS Student Bursaries award and pay bursaries to eligible students on pre-registration health professional training courses according to the NHS Bursary Scheme as published by the Department of Health. Total student population at any one time is approximately 80,000 and the value of bursaries paid to students is around £450 million. That’s over £63,000 spent each and every hour on NHS Student Bursaries. Social Work Bursaries award and pay bursaries to eligible students on pre-registration social work professional training courses according to the Social Work Bursary Scheme as published by the Department of Health. Total student population at any time is approximately 20,000 and the value of bursaries paid to students is around £70 million. That’s almost £8,000 spent each and every hour on Social Work Bursaries. The Social Work Education Support Grant (SWESG) consists of payments made to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to support the administration and provision of practice placements for students in order to help them arrange and manage essential placement experiences for students of Social Work. The total value is approximately £30 million across 82 HEIs.

Prescription Exemption Checking Service

We process NHS prescriptions dispensed in the community in England and provide payments to pharmacy contractors based on the drugs or medical devices they have dispensed to patients.

Procurement Services

We provide an in-house management function too oversee and manage outsourced NHS contracts to third party suppliers. This includes the NHS Supply Chain Contract.
