Citation issues edit

Recently, the following paragraph has been repeatedly inserted despite having no citation:

Certain Hanbali scholars (such as Ibn Jauzi claimed that the Musnad contains fabricated hadith. These hadith are generally thought to be fabricated by interpolation (i.e. that narrator jumbling up information, mixing texts and authoritative chains) rather than being mere creations of a dubious narrators imagination.

The citation now provided was this:

Fatawa of Ibn Taimiya, vol 1, page 248.

I am assuming this refers to Ibn Taymiyyah's well known work "Majmu' al-Fatawa", as he authored no book with the exact title "fatawa Ibn Taymiyyah". Because there has been a problem recently with the mistranslation and in some cases outright forgery of Arabic language sources, I obtained a copy of the original Majmu' al-Fatawa by Ibn Taymiyyah in Arabic so I could confirm. After looking on page 248 of volume one, I found not a single mention of the Musnad of Imam Ahmad nor any of the hadith contained in it. While this could perhaps be a mistake in regard to the source, my suspicions based on the above mentioned recent problems with Arabic language sources makes me uneasy. Because the paragraph is once again without a legitimate reference, I will move it for the time being as the information it contains is still unverified. It is there.

The hadith section of Majma al-Fatawa is in volume 18 of the original page numbering systems. Supertouch (talk) 13:18, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
