Murder??

OK:

He was charged with Murder, but how was she murdered? Are there any details? All it says is, she was found unresponsive. For all we know it was an accident. Until we know more facts, I really don't feel this warrants an article here, especially one with the word Murder in the title. We don't know what happened, and by putting anything to do with Murder in the article(other then the fact he was charged with it) we would be presuming guilt, without a trial, and therefore not being neutral, which we are supposed to be.--Subman758 (talk) 20:31, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

The police are treating it as a homicide case so it is considered murder even if it was not Huguely. There are details: "Her right eye was swollen shut, there was a pool of blood on the pillow, and her face was bruised, according to the affidavits. " (from [1]). Huguely himself said to police that he "shook Love and her head repeatedly hit the wall" (same source). Her official cause of death is still unknown until an autopsy is performed. --Yarnalgo talk to me 23:14, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Impact section

This section seems unnecessary and not particularly informative. Avocats (talk) 01:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Classic

Good thing there is flagrant POV mention of tangential Republican Party affiliation - we wouldn't want there to be any confusion. Pathetic. 68.50.210.164 (talk) 04:13, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

so why didn't you change it? because you'd rather piss and moan? just sayin'.....wouldn't want there to be any confusion.Toyokuni3 (talk) 14:52, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Missing generation

if george sr.(I) was his great grandfather, then, presumably, george jr, (II) was his grandfather. his father is george IV, and he's george V. there is no room for george III.if we're going to go into the accused's family tree, it needs to look consistent.Toyokuni3 (talk) 15:02, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Move discussion

I propose the article be moved to something like "2010 Virginia lacrosse murder" or "2010 University of Virginia murder". See WP:N/CA#Article title for naming of criminal acts and Talk:Duke University students rape accusation case#The name's ridiculous. for discussion of the naming of a somewhat similar article. --Yarnalgo talk to me 19:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Article was just moved to its current name (Murder of Yeardley Love). I agree with this as the title for the article. --Yarnalgo talk to me 19:46, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Move was reverted so I'm still pushing for one of the above names or maybe "2010 University of Virginia lacrosse murder" though it's a little wordy. --Yarnalgo talk to me 08:16, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
If she was murdered while playing Lacrosse, or while on a Lacrosse field, or with a Lacrosse stick, or if the murder had something even remotely to do with the sport of Lacrosse, then I'd be okay with "2010 Virginia lacrosse murder". Both "2010 University of Virginia murder" or "Murder of Yeardley Love" are more to the point. PostHuman (talk) 22:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
It does have something remotely to do with the sport of lacrosse because she was a lacrosse player killed by another lacrosse player. That is the only reason the case has received so much press coverage. --Yarnalgo talk to me 23:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
I decided to be bold and move it back to "Murder of Yeardley Love". That makes far more sense, in my mind. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:02, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
The question I have for both User:Yarnalgo and User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao is this: Who is Yeardley Love-- was she famous? No, as User:Yarnalgo correctly points out, the only reason the case has received so much press coverage is the lacrosse connection. Moreover, it is the alleged sexual jealousy and rage of the suspect that is garnering much more attention than the name and/or personality of the victim. And particularly now that there is evidence that the men's lacrosse coach knew about at least two prior acts of violence by the suspect, there is all the more reason to leave lacrosse in the name. I realize that User:Yarnalgo is a lacrosse fan, and I'm sorry if this incident has brought scrutiny on this noble sport, but I continue to find it bizarre to name the article after such a little-known person. Maybe one day if friends and associates reveal important things about Ms. Love or if statues are built in her memory, I might change my opinion. In the meantime, I ask that you clearly state why the title I provided bothers you so much.Hawesinsky (talk) 19:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Because "Murder of Yeardley Love" fits the pattern for articles of this nature:
Just a few examples. And in a number of them, the alleged murderer has received far more coverage than the victim.
"UVA Lacrosse Killing" is a bad title for numerous reasons, in my opinion. One, it implies that lacrosse had something to do with the case, which I would dispute; at the moment, it seems like it just so happens that the killer and victim happened to play lacrosse. Secondly, it doesn't fit the above pattern, which articles about murder cases should follow. (I'm not sure what WP:MOS has to say on the subject, but I'm sure it's been codified somewhere.) Thirdly, it implies that someone in the media has christened the case the "UVA Lacrosse Killing", and that the title has spread to everyone who is discussing it. Which is incorrect, as I've never heard the case referred to in that manner. Fourth, the title is incorrectly capitalized; if kept, it should be "UVA lacrosse killing", or possibly "UVA Lacrosse killing". --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:16, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I agree. (on an unrelated note Duke lacrosse case is a somehow vague title) I'm gonna move this back to the original title until further discussion because of the vagueness of this title. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 00:27, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
The heading should help people to find the entry, now and in the future. 'Yeardley Love' 'Murder' and 'Lacrosse' will all help people to fnd the article quickly when searching. So I propose 'Murder of Lacrosse Player Yeardley Love' Petersimmons4 (talk) 22:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Occupation?

changed to 'Inmate". Hes an inmate now right? Far from a student anymore...? Or maybe just remove 'occupation' — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.50.119.13 (talk) 06:24, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

"Inmate" is not an occupation. I think that the "occupation" section refers to the individual's occupation at the time of the incident ... and not necessarily the occupation subsequently. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk)
