Talk:Mirko Cro Cop/Archive 1

Stop Editing This!

"On April 21, 2007, Mirko faced Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70 in Manchester, England. Mirko was the heavy favorite amongst his fans for this bout, and Gonzaga was considered just a stepping stone in Mirko's path to conquer the relativley weak UFC Heavyweight Division. This time Mirko did not come out to "Pride FC Theme" as his entrance music, but rather went back to the old boyband "DuranDuran" and "Wild Boys". The match was highly one sided, Gonzaga was definetley not scared of CroCop like Eddie Sanchez was. Crocop did not push the pace, he was back to being to defensive and showed no interest in winning at all.

Gonzaga took Mirko down and landed some hard elbows that opened up small cuts and bruises on Mirkos face. The ref Herb Dean decided to stand the fighters up, even though Gonzaga had a dominant position and was quite busy with elbow strikes, both fighters were measuering eachother before Gonzaga landed a perfect Right High Kick to CroCops head that sent the "Croatian Sensation" crashing to the floor. "

This is what actually happened in the match......i have noticed that matches where CroCop was victorious are talked about in detail, while his losses (like the recent one are marginalised. Do not remove this unless you have clear reasons.

I disagree

It is poorly written (bad grammar, spelling) and highly opinionated. Just the guy 05:02, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Trademark fighting style section

Can we get some edits done on that? That section of the article doesn't seem very "encyclopedic". While the man is known for his left high kick to knock people out, I don't think it's necesary to go on about every technique he has used more than twice. I think the whole section can be shortened from what it is now. MezzoMezzo 17:07, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

picture

the qualtiy of the picture used on the cro cop page is absolutley rubbish we need a new image one with with graphical qualtiy of a satisfactory nature

The interface seems to resize it automatically to 200 by 300 pixels if the image is not that size, so I've manually resized it.--Ty580 15:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

good job

Who keeps changing what I post?

And what neutrality was breached? You mustn't have ever seen him fight or are unfamiliar w/ MMA if you have issue with what was said.

Crocop Movie

Recently, crocop just starred on a movie. I just saw a poster in front of the video club. I didnt had the chance to see it, but let's check it out later =D

Cro-cop height and weight

Generally Cro-cop is listed as being 6'2"(188cm) and around 100kg in weight, here he is listed at 185cm and 105kg. It's always possible that a fighter is shorter than his list height, where does this height information come from?

Not the same Filipović

http://www.hnk-cibalia.hr/igraci/Mirko-Filipovic/ He is also a football player in a Croatian team Cibalia Vinkovci.[1] --The link seems to be broken now, but he did sign for a Croatian football team in the last couple of years I think it was just a promotional gimmick for the club though, he didn't actually play, just trained with the team a few times. I'll try to find the article I read.--HardCopy 01:25, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Mirko and the UFC

Nothing has been confirmed yet about Mirko signing a contract with the UFC. In fact, his name continues to be listed as appearing at the New Year Eve Matsuri despite all of the speculation. We should consider removing rumors as they do not contribute to the factual nature of this article.67.42.103.236 07:53, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

According to this news story: on MMAWeekly.com, the news has been independantly confirmed. But I will wait untill the UFC confirms it, I am taking down the "future events" thing for now. Skeletor2112 08:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
It seems someone else has posted(or reverted) the same info, but did not provide any new source. Skeletor2112 08:36, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
-->was i, sorry. thought it newsworthy and accurate. Wikisources are not historically without potential future activity. didn't realize it was previously posted Pikachu 17:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
mmaweekly did NOT confirm he signed a contract... all sherdog and mmaweekly did was already confirm his considerations of the ufc, but there is no official word from either mirko or the ufc yet, we should wait then Thesaddestday 10:29, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
The exact quote is: "Sources from within Filipovic’s camp and an independent source in Las Vegas have confirmed to MMAWeekly that the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix champion has indeed made the decision to move on to the UFC." How much clearer can it get? They don't mention a contract, but "confirmed to MMAWeekly that the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix champion has indeed made the decision to move on to the UFC" is pretty cut and dry. Skeletor2112 10:37, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
until he signs a contract it is not official... the most responsible thing to do would be to wait until he is officially signed with ufc... this isn't a news and rumor website, it is an online encyclopedia... that is my opinion Thesaddestday 10:50, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Cool, it will probably be announced pretty soon, anyway. I am just stoked to see Cro Cop kick the shit out of the almost non-existant UFC Heavyweight division, should be awesome! Skeletor2112 12:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
i agree :) Thesaddestday 05:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

update- i'm sure a lot of you have seen by now, mmaweekly got with mirko's manager and confirmed nothing is finalized and they are still in negotiations, he still has not made a decision Thesaddestday 04:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

once again, the latest 2 news stories (sherdog & mmaweekly) remain speculative and unofficial... they may be correct, but they aren't not presently reliable and remain inappropriate to source as they had previously Thesaddestday 05:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

There are pictures on MMA.tv's underground forum of CroCop with a UFC hoody on that were taken just recently. Its pretty much a done deal at this point...User:DonnieFizive02 00:37, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but we're waiting for an official announcement. One Night In Hackney 00:40, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay dude here you go straight from the biggest croation newspaper:

http://www.vecernji-list.hr/newsroom/sports/more/706217/index.do

Check both of those out. He is UFC. Its official.209.244.188.168 01:06, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Also for what its worth Dave Meltzer is reporting that Mirko IS currently in Las Vegas...User:DonnieFizive02 01:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
English language source would be better please. Also I don't see what the rush is. When/if Crop Cop is officially announced as fighting in UFC (which will probably be at the PPV in a couple of days), we can add it then. One Night In Hackney 01:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

whoever is just the ip address you need to keep in mind this is an encyclopedia and therefore until there is something official it is inappropriate to include it Thesaddestday 05:40, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

IT WAS OFFICIAL. I PROVIDED THE NEWSPAPER SOURCE. Does it have to be American for it to be considered legitamite? Oh yeah and those posts were made by me...--Donnie from the mean streets of Boston, KY 18:32, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

It's official, folks

http://67.ufc.com/

RobMasterFunk 01:49, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Well it was official in a Croation newspaper a week or so ago. I guess if its not in an American source its not good enough for Wiki apparently...--Donnie from the mean streets of Boston, KY 18:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Cro cop is a machine

has vicious power espesially in his roundhouse kicks , he often knocks out opponents by kicking them in the head , he has had one UFC fight against eddie sanchez and beat him. he has also had streetfights , the most rememberable street fight was against kal/hughes/douglass , where mirko kicked kal in the head and goodnight , kal did not get up .

fight durations and rounds

ok i just watched 4 fights and noticed that the stats for 2 of them are wrong i'm not going to watch all of them and time them but i guessing there are more is there another source out there

Retirement?

Anyone have a link to the NovaTV interview where he apparently talked about retiring after Gonzaga?--HardCopy 01:25, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Why is the page protected?

Why is it saying on the Cro Cop's page that this page was protected to deal with vandalism? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NWo4lifePT (talkcontribs) 06:20, 22 April 2007 (UTC).

I think it's standard to put that template message at the top of any page that is protected to let anonymous or newly registered editors know why they are not able to edit the page. Sancho 18:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you're a new editor... I see you were making some improvements to the article. The protection request wasn't due to your contributions, but a flurry of vandalism from anonymous IP addresses just before you started editing this article. It's an unfortunate side-effect that you now are prevented from editing this article until you have an account for four days. I think the protection isn't scheduled to last that long even, though. Sancho 19:46, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh ok, I thought I've done anything wrong and that was the reason why the page was being protected. I did register myself only to improve Wikipedia, not to wreck the pages so it was kinda strange to see that the page was protected due to vandalism a couple of minutes after I did the last update on the page --NWo4lifePT 22:09, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Latest additions

In my opinions, the latest additions regarding Cro Cop's fight with Gonzaga are not only highly inappropriate and opinionated (i.e., the line which says "conquer the relativley weak UFC Heavyweight Division", including the misspelling) but also poorly composed. I think it should be removed, though Cro Cop's thought about the fight should be included, but properly cited. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Just the guy (talkcontribs) 20:06, 25 April 2007 (UTC).

protected

I'm not a registered user but there has been quite a bit of vandilization to both this and the Gonzaga page after the recent match, someone should go through and fix and protect these pages until the fire dies down. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.2.200.118 (talk) 22:54, 25 April 2007 (UTC).

External link to discussion forum and Youtube video

I believe the recent addition of a link to a discussion forum and a YouTube video should be removed. At Wikipedia:External_links#Links_normally_to_be_avoided, it specifically states to avoid "Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace), discussion forums or USENET." The added link to http://www.nokaut.com/forum/ is a link to a discussion forum and is to be avoided. It does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article (this is another criteria at Wikipedia:External_links#Links_normally_to_be_avoided). I previously deleted it, but the user Hal1338 (talk · contribs) reinstated it, along with a YouTube video that I'm also not sure is appropriate as it doesn't provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article. The reason that Hal1338 gave for reinstating these links is at my user talk page: [1]. Please discuss this so that we can reach consensus on this issue. Sancho 08:39, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I think you're absolutely right, Sancho. I don't see any room in WP:EL for interpreting that the nokaut and youtube links are acceptable. The youtube link appears to have a copyrighted video. If the link is really necessary to establish a one-line note about a trivial incident which does not help a general reader in the first place, then that one line can go anyway. Trivia is not encouraged on this encyclopedia. hateless 17:13, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
actually, i was the first to notice and removed it. And i definitely agree that forum links are to be avoided as per WP:RS and even blog sites, for a fact that all infos that can be found in forums are personal POVs which is against wikipedia's NPOV policy. As for the YouTube link, that should go too. Even if its a video of the actual match, YouTube links are fan-created which also falls under WP:EL policy for fansites. If the videoclip is from UFC.com site then we wouldnt have a problem. †Bloodpack† 18:22, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

YouTube links are most certainly acceptable. See: Wikipedia:External_links#Linking_to_YouTube.2C_Google_Video.2C_and_similar_sites, which states: There is no blanket ban on linking to these sites as long as the links abide by these guidelines. We can't remove a link to YouTube just because it's a link to YouTube. If its irrelevant, or breaks copyright laws, than the deletion is fine. -CasualFighter 00:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

So, not "most certainly acceptable", but acceptable if they abide by the guidelines at Wikipedia:External links. I'm not sure that this particular link does. Sancho 03:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
so, who made this youtube video? †Bloodpack† 14:32, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
The youtube video is controversal, according to the article. Are there any reliable third party sources documenting the controversy? If so, replace it with them. If not, pull the link and the bit in the article about the incident, because it isn't notable enough. Gnfnrf 04:59, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
The clip according to the blurb, and to the id bug on the top corner of the video, was shown on Croatian television; Mjenjačnica is a reality TV show. Unless you're telling me that in Croatia that broadcast shows routinely are aired to be released to the public domain, it seems safe to assume that clip is copyrighted. hateless 20:41, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I can not find Wikipedia:Reliable sources that refer to the incident at all. Only message forums and the youtube video. I will remove the material about the incident and the video. Sancho 08:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Hal1338 (talk · contribs) reinstated the material and he/she's not participating in this discussion. Sancho 15:19, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
I tried again with a more specific edit summary, same results. What is the next step? How does one deal with an editor who isn't participating in building a consensus (or is ignoring one already built)? Gnfnrf 02:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I've asked for guidance at Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User_unwilling_to_participate_in_consensus_building_discussion. Sancho 03:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
If we do indeed agree that the addition of the clip and trivia detracts from the encyclopedic nature of the article, then we can issue more direct warnings to Hal1338 to either participate in discussion or stop reinstating the material. Sancho 06:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
To clarify my position, I think the forum link is fine. I think the youtube video link is never appropriate. I think the comment about the television show could stay if the supposed controversy is properly attributed. Gnfnrf 00:41, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Who is he fighting next?

In the UFC 75 card it says Kongo but the reference is in german. Can anyone help me out?

Yup, I can help. No such fight has been formally announced by any official source, so it doesn't need to be in the article at all. Problem solved! Tuckdogg 01:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Another guy on the ufc 75 discussion translated the article and it said that he is to face kongo. Not a lot of quotes were used to i dont really know if i should believe this. Renny11 10:35 pm, 10 June 2007 (Pacific Time)

That's not the point. That article isn't an official source. An official source would be the UFC, who hasn't announced any matchups at all for UFC 75 aside from Jackson-Henderson. Until they announced Cro Cop-Kongo, it's nothing more than speculation and rumour, which doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. We'll add his next matchup here when it's official, and right now nothing is. Tuckdogg 05:56, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

ufcjunkie.com seems to think he is fighting Kongo due to that german site that i showed you. I want Dana to say it first though. Renny11
