Taut-line hitch?

edit

How does this knot differ from the taut-line hitch? The step-by-step pictures look identical in my mind to how a taut-line is tied, and the end result picture looks the same as the picture given on the taut-line hitch page. -- stubblyhead | T/c 17:52, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. However the very similar adjustable loop knot that ABOK refers to as the Midshipman's hitch (#1799) is actually not the knot currently illustrated here. See Taut-line hitch#Naming for more information. --Dfred 01:26, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposal for this page to be a redirect

edit

I propose that this page be turned into a redirect to Taut-line hitch. Given the inconsistent naming issues of these related "three-wrap hitches" (Taut-line hitch, Midshipman's Hitch, Adjustable hitch, Rigger's Hitch, Rolling Hitch, Magnus hitch, etc., etc!) my idea is to have all the forms of these knot discussed on just two pages: Rolling hitch (for those tied around an object or other rope) and Taut-line hitch (for versions tied around the standing part) and attempt to explain everything there. Objections? --Dfred 01:26, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Changed to redirect. --Dfred 14:06, 30 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
