Sinister undertones

primary education is an example of merit good

it should be added that the term has a connection to paternalism, it refers to goods which are deemed to be good for people, a perfect example being seat belts

Education is also listed as a credence good. I don't know if this somehow upsets someone.
A good can be both a credence good (consumers aren't sure what the quality was even after using the product) and a merit good (society in general thinks a product or the idea of a product is good, but there is not actually enough market demand to encourage companies to make or offer the product).
