Needs more about business & small organization use
This article needs much more about the most common uses of MoU's:
- BUSINESS
- SMALL ORGANIZATIONS
...rather than so much about international agreements between NATIONS (a tiny fraction of the uses of MoUs).
- Maybe, but President Trump would probably be right that 'they don't mean anything', i.e. they are merely statements of intent. Intent can change at any time and in any direction.
- I came upon a very important memorandum of understanding today. It is between Australia and Papua New Guinea to extend and reactivate the naval base Lobrum on Manus Island. Although not said explicitly, press reports at the time 5 months ago were concerned that the base would not be suitable for proper war participation of US ships in the forthcoming war against China. So this memorandum prepares the way for large scale participation of bigger US ships there.
- A memorandum of understanding can therefore also be seen as a document of trend, here: Inserting a foot in the door for an alliance partner to facilitate future fighting.
