No Publications

There is a credibility issue when you are issued a Ph.D. from an instituion without having produced any publications. Given that I am a Neuroscience graduate student working toward my MSc and hopefully PhD. and already have multiple publications I think it should be noted that there is something disingenuous about Mayim receiving a PhD. without any. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.80.252.85 (talk) 23:26, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I can completely understand where you are coming from. But, on the other hand there maybe no publiciations out there because she may not have elected to publish them. If I'm not mistaken, publishing isn't required unless the candidate is going into the academic world; at some institutional, that is the case with doctoral candidates. And since she is not teaching or doing research, then it doesn't really matter. Publishing is suggested, but not a requirement, and it must not be for UCLA. SO, not having any research work in and of itself doesn't make UCLA or Mayim Bialik herself disingenuous at all. And to even think that when there is actual documented proof that she graduated from there, then you are basically calling into question her entire doctoral studies.

No, it happens sometimes that there is a late teen growth spurt, plus there is a bit of a weight gain too which would increase her size.

Fixed sentence

I thought this line was improper:

Her grandparents were European refugees from the Holocaust, immigrating from Poland and Czechoslovakia/Hungary.

You can't be a "refugee from the Holocaust" since the Holocaust was not a place. You can be a "survivor of the Holocaust". So, I changed it. MattFoley Motivational Speaker (talk) 20:45, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

She did appear in the season finale - but one appearance doesn't create a recurring role. I'm almost positive she will appear in a future episode next season, but it hasn't happened yet. Neuroscientist?

I don't think it's appropriate to label her as a neuroscientist in the lead sentence. She has completed a PhD in the subject, which is an amazing accomplishment. But it's not her primary career and the article states that she is no longer pursing it. It's definitely noteworthy and worth mentioning in the lead paragraph, though. She is not a neuroscientist, as she never worked in the field. She holds a PhD in the subject, yes, but has never mentioned in any interview having worked in a research or academic environment as a career. I'm going to reword it. MSJapan (talk) 17:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Additionally, as I was rewriting this, I noticed that she herself stated in an interview cited in the article that she has no plans whatsoever to pursue a career in the field in any way, shape, or form. Therefore, calling her a scientist is non-factual. MSJapan (talk) 17:44, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Correct. She has a PhD in some area of neuroscience, but she does not practice in the field. In other words, she is not a Neuroscientist. By way of example, I have (among other things) an AA degree from a community collage in Machine Tool Technology, a course I took to be able to make things on the Bridgeport mill in my garage. Looks like it got dropped from the lead paragraph, rather than just from the lead sentence. Maybe something like: "Bialik is notable among former child actors for having both an active acting career, and attaining a PhD in neuroscience." Dosbears (talk) 00:07, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

About that 'Ph.D' business

Richard Feynman was one of the leading theoretical physicists of the 20th century. He won a Nobel Prize to prove it. His Wikipedia entry does not include Ph.D after his name. This is an actress we're talking about. A quite intelligent, accomplished actress, but still - not Feynman.

Not yet divorced

The Infobox currently shows: "Michael Stone (2003–2012; separated)", even though they have just now decided to divorce, which won't be granted for some period of time, depending on where and how. It seems that it should, instead, show: "Michael Stone (married 2003; separated 2012)" and when/if the divorce becomes final, edit it to "Michael Stone (2003–2012)". —[AlanM1(talk)]— 09:52, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

The Infobox should use the {{marriage}} template; displaying (2003-present), and if desired we can manually place (separated) after it, but the whole thing needs to be clearly explained in the article text rather than trying to cram facts into the infobox.
