Neutrality

I believe the representation of Master P's music lacks neutrality. While it qualifies its critisisms, it doesn't really offer differing views. I would argue that the vast majority of the music by master p and No Limit Records reflects southern trends much more than it does west coast trends. I certainly wouldn't support the claim that master p has in any way imitated Dr. Dre. Furthermore, if you look at the issue from the standpoint of whether he has done more imitating of others than others have done of him, I think any neutral party would agree that he has been imitated much more than he has actually imitated others.Wbbigtymer 21:56, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

I agree, this is the worst article I've ever seen on Wikipedia, full of hearsay, opinion, and "facts" and "figures" which lack any sort of citation. -Ace

  • this article is in desperate need of a rewrite, most of its current state came from phrase-level edits. however, now that the controversy section has been removed, i do not really see a reason for the neutrality tag. can it be removed, perhaps to be replaced with a more fitting tag? i hate to see a neutrality dispute stay around - it should be a working point, not a stopping point. the points that were in the controversy section were worth mentioning, but encyclopedically. there is more to say about his life as well. we must be able to say these things without stepping into objectionable judgements. Burgher 03:58, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
  • While I may not disagree with the sentiment, this article should absolutely have a neutrality tag on it as long as it opines about Kanye West's actions as being "correct". Clemon79 05:18, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
  • This seems like a parody. Obviously not NPOV.

I went ahead and deleted the following sentence as it was blatantly POV.

He wasn't a great rapper, nor was anyone on No Limit; occasionally, the No Limit rappers were even talentless and clumsy. 207.6.31.119 10:17, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi umm, wts the deal with theAlbums, ther stubs if I could help I would but I can't so sorry

what about his beef with yukmouth of the luniz?

I'm wondering if he still's own all his masters, because capitol keeps re-releasing his music. the greatest hits cd he released on koch records, had none of his old songs, they were all remixes or old recordings. Can somebody explain this to me?Supreme2k1 00:22, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Supreme2k1

Craig B, KLC Odell and Mo B. Dick (Beats by the Pound) sued No Limit and won a judgement. I believe one of them owns the entire catalog now: http://www.alandowling.com/clientsandcases.htm Cheers! Stella (My talk page) 00:26, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Needs neutrality. How do we fix? -unstuckbergs

Rewrite

The majority of this entry was taken word for word from Master P's VH1 bio. I rewrote what I could, adding info from other sources. Please fill in the gaps, if you have additional info. Ckessler

Remove Legal woes section

I removed :

Master P and Miller were arrested in Los Angeles on the University of California, Los Angeles campus on January 27, 2005, after police found two handguns in the car. They were ordered to stand trial on February 27, 2006, and face a maximum sentence of 3 years if convicted.

as a) there is no citation and b) the first sentence of the article says that Master P and Miller are the same person. Who is the Miller being referred to here? Colonel Tom 03:46, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Just to answer the question, it is obvious to me that the second miller is his brother Silkk. They were both in the car. I just know that because I've read several articles about the incident.Wbbigtymer 06:17, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Remove Bow Wow vs. No Limit

I removed :

Master P steps to Bow Wow. Talk about picking on someone your own size. P at least has 20 years, two feet and 150 pounds on Bow. Hot 97's Miss Info reported that Master P recently approached Bow backstage at Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Word is P didn't look like he was in a spanking mood. With several No Limit goons in tow, P stepped to Bow about dissing his son Lil Romeo on "Fresh Azimiz." The New Orleans rapper was apparently particularly ticked off by Bow saying, "I'm 18 and making more than your dad" in the song. Word is Bow kept calm and replied, "Actually the song ain't about you, but if the shoe fits..."

as this is unencyclopedic in tone and, IMO, unsalvageable, as there is no encyclopedic content in this section. Colonel Tom 03:53, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

article quality

For an artist of this stature, I honestly think this article has much room for improvement. I would like to bring it up to the quality of the Ludacris or Eminem pages. If anyone has ideas on how to go about this or has the urge to go ahead and do it, please do. I've been watching and making minor edits to this article for a while now, and some of the constants I've noticed as the article has gone through changes are 1)lots of unsourced claims, 2)lots of POV statements (often libelous), 3)Poor writing quality, and 4)outdated information.Wbbigtymer 04:53, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

vandalism

I believe vandalism is a huge problem in this article. There aren't that many constructive editors contributing it, and the flagrant vandals may well outnumber them. Perhaps this article should be closed to anonymous and recently registered users.Wbbigtymer 06:13, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Putting WikiProject Texas here so the bot won't retag. Ingrid 00:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

This is a joke!

This page is a joke... no NPOV, horrible grammar and spelling... somebody do us a favor and delete this article and start over—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.51.95.206 (talkcontribs)

I'd have to agree with the joke part. Ohyeahmormons 20:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Do NOT delete my posts.I'm still in the process of redoing it.Its funny how you deleted the personal legacy section but left the failures and criticisms section. If you dont have anything to contribute then go on about your business!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Macadon (talkcontribs)

Oh don't think I was hiding my name on purpose.Where were you haters when this page was really a joke and none of you had anything to slap neutrality tags on.I post some positive stuff about Master p and now it is a joke?It wasn't a joke before I started editing it.I'll try my best in the future to be as NPOV as possible. In the mean time why don't some of you contribute since you think it's such a joke?

It's still a joke (kinda like Master P{Nis}, but that's a whole other issue).

It bothers me that for the most part, the article is entirely biased for Master P. It speaks too highly of him as if he were, and always has been, a pioneer of such a noble cause. What annoys me the most is the section of films that he has been in. According to the article Master P has "starred" in movies with other stars. It even states he starred opposite Harrison Ford, when it was actually Josh Hartnett who did so. If anything, Master P deserves a mention for being in some films, but not have something saying that he actually starred in them, when it is obvious that he was not the star attraction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.220.49 (talk) 12:53, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Master P's wealth

To the person who keeps editing my posts why can't you come up with actual facts that Master P has been lying about his wealth? And his accomplishments STILL outweigh his so called 'failures' regardless of your lame attempts to prove other wise.

Basketball

I see no mention of the semi pro basketball team Master P joined around 2000. Reidhoch 17:24, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

He also played (briefly) for the Toronto Raptors, did he not? Keekee 06:24, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

There is not ONE single source next to his wealth....As in....Why am I not seeing any numbers for this huge claims?

There is not ONE single source next to his wealth....As in....Why am I not seeing any numbers for this huge claims?

I am going to delete everything. Untill you morons can cite them, they stay deleted. Dragong4 01:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, just do it. Don't call anyone a moron. - Slow Graffiti 20:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

No mention of Master P the sports agent??

The article doesn't mention when Master P was one of the worst sports agents in history. He negotiated horrible contracts for a few rookie NFL players, including Ricky Williams. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.125.27.73 (talk) 22:31, 26 January 2007 (UTC).

Does this sound biased?

I posted the WP:AD. I believe that the writer of this article does not understand the concept of neutrality, or skeptacism. several so-called "facts" are fatally flawed (eg: father of southern rap? ...please...) I'm not gonna lie, i'm no fan of his, but i'm even less of a fan of people who needlessly pump up their fave rappers image on a wiki.--Lostcause365 19:04, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I think this article should be reduced to a stub, and then rebuilt. Very little of the current article should survive the rebuild. It is unsourced, biased, and poorly written. It reads more of a PR mailer than an encyclopedic entry. Andyparkerson 10:52, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Take A Stand Records

No Limit Records CEO and founder Percy "Master P" Miller is making an effort to transform his image and label, by vowing to turn away from using negative lyrics in the music he makes. "Personally, I have profited millions of dollars through explicit rap lyrics," Miller said in a statement. "I can honestly say that I was once part of the problem and now it's time to be part of the solution. I am ready to take a stand by cleaning up my music and follow my son's footsteps and make a clean rap album."

Miller's declaration comes amid recent criticism of rap music for negative and degrading images.

The Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as well as talk show host Oprah Winfrey have made headlines for their roles in confronting the issue.

As a result, Miller is determined to make a change.

"Al Sharpton and Oprah Winfrey are absolutely right! It's time for us to take a stand and be responsible for our own actions," the mogul said. "I am willing to accept my responsibility. Hip-Hop is about our neighborhoods, the reality of what is going on within them, and dreaming big."

Miller is putting his new outlook into focus with the creation of his new record label, Take A Stand Records.

The company, which is co-founded by the rapper's son Romeo, is currently looking for "Hip-Hop artists with street music without offensive lyrics," according to Miller, who added that a nationwide talent search will be held through his new reality television show, America's Next Hip-Hop Stars.com. I THINK THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE ADDED.

Not a reliable source, find a better one

"The initiative is the only recording label committed to signing and promoting hip-hop artists with responsible image and lyrics." This statement is not true regarding the label. There have been plenty of labels, solely hip hop, that only focus on edification with more than capable lyricists. Crossmovement Records has been doing this for more than 10 years. You also have Reach Records and Lamp Mode along with others as well. These artists and labels have been doing this with success worldwide just like their more negative counterparts, but with little to no BET or MTV recognition. Therefore when it's said that Master P's move is the only one it is not only incorrect, but takes away from the work the other artists have been doing for years. Fair use rationale for Image:Masterp3.jpeg

Image:Masterp3.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Updates

I've added several references, positive and negative news, added the legal woes with references, and some additional information. I've removed the 'no citations' template. Pejorative.majeure 02:48, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

WCW Career

There is absolutely no mention of P's short lived, yet influential wrestling career with the WCW. I don't belive he actually fought anyone, but he started a stable and was integral to the overall plot in 98. He was not very involved but the subject still bears a mention, don't you agree? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.12.72.2 (talk) 15:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Thug Life

No mention about his past...for example is thug life that contributed to his wealth. Everyone down at Nothern knows he was dealing and pimping...

Wikipedia is becoming less and less a reliable source for non-historical articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.18.162.33 (talk) 10:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Critical reception/criticism

Seriously? No section for this, nothing? This talentless hack almost single-handedly destroyed New Orleans' long history of producing innovative, great music, and served as a general indicator of the decline of commercial rap after the deaths of Biggie and Pac. Okay, that obviously was an NPOV comment, and I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me, but it's not like I'm the only one with that opinion. --SmashTheGlass (talk) 23:08, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

NAACP

The article cited does not say that Master P replaced William Jefferson Clinton in any official capacity, only that he replaced Mr. Clinton as speaker at a single event. 208.53.227.112 (talk) 04:33, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Still in Desperate need of a rewrite

This article is still plagued with poor English and poorly organized data. How exactly is it that someone having a segment called Master P's Theater a controversy? This doesn't belong at all. Even if the segment was controversial, it belongs in the article for that show. I still think this article needs to be destroyed and rewritten in its entirety. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.111.201.110 (talk) 05:14, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
