I think that this Wiki page does belong with Scouting in Massachusetts. The title should be changed from Massasoit District to Massasoit Council.--eTh!nk 15:24, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

unit list

edit

Granted, the list of units will likely be dropped as a result of the merge, but do the recent changes to the unit list reflect the current state of the changed units or some point in their past history? I ask only because the original data came directly from the Narragansett Council, and that was relatively recent. --Djwtwo 20:23, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would be a shame to lose the unit history about the Massasoit Council. It is still incomplete. For example, there are no Explorer Posts listed. I know that there were explorer posts in the Massasoit Council in the 1960s. --eTh!nk 13:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The changes to the Unit List reflect my personal knowledge of units in the Massasoit Council in the 1960s. --eTh!nk 13:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Given that the Council merged twice over 25 years, I would expect that the Naaragansett Council's knowledge and supporting records about the history is somewhat incomplete. --eTh!nk 13:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My point was that the list reflected current reality, so the changes also removed valid information (favoring historic data to current data). I agree that adding historic information to the list would make it more valuable information (my own unit, for example, has changed chartering organizations a half-dozen times in the last two decades.) For example, I did include some no-longer-extant units in the list for the Cachalot District when I updated that information. I suspect, though, that information like this has a very narrow audience, and is really (still) just a list, so it's likely to vanish in the merge and make this discussion moot. For what it's worth, Narragansett Council has a surprising amount of records on the old Cachalot and Massasoit Councils, from what I've seen of them. --Djwtwo 18:33, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
