editEric Greene was attached to this in 2004 and 2007 but apparently Gregg Baker actually sang the premiere in 2005.[1][2] Rmhermen (talk) 19:18, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
I saw this opera in Cincinnati in 2005 and was struck by the self-righteousness and dramatic buy-in of my fellow audience members, who could broadly be categorized as "limousine liberals". Therefore, seeing from the article that historical accuracy was as secondary to dramatic license as I suspected then, I think the composer could potentially profit greatly from a sequel set 150 years in the future, depicting the tragedy of Margaret's 'great grandson' Eric, killed for selling untaxed cigarettes by Gaines' evil descendant who joined the New York police force solely to prey on African-Americans. The atonal "I am meeeee!!!!!" Margaret sings as she steps off the gallows could be turned into a plaintive, "I can't breathe!" that could later be 'harmonized' into a growing protest chant by the mob chorus. The same audience would utterly be enthralled by it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.168.101.72 (talk) 00:55, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
