Discussion during review at Articles for Creation

@Stefanianj: As I'm sure you've already seen, I moved the list of references from the Help Desk over to here. One of those references seems to have been a great help in fleshing out the biography and I think you are well on the way to getting this draft accepted for publication. I also think this process can be accelerated if I were to go through and give a more-thorough copy editing. However, my main goal in doing this will be to remove the film-by-film detail from the biography and place it in the Filmography section. But I won't do this if you don't approve of that approach. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter.

On a less substantive note, I see you removed the "clarification needed" tag. I placed that tag there because the meaning of "interpreted" is unclear when referring to a listing of a film's actors. You might want to tell the reader exactly what you mean when you use that word.

I look forward to your response. NewYorkActuary (talk) 19:14, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

@NewYorkActuary: Hi, thanks again for all your help. I added more references, while is not easy to find news paper article since Aliprandi died in 1997 there are many books that refer to him. I just requested for the article to be reviewed again I hope I addressed all the issues. Regarding the word interpreted I appreciated your explanation. Initially the article was supposed to be just a translation from the Italian wiki; and the use the word 'interpretato' which has a different meaning in English. I changed interpreted to featuring. I hope it is better. I am mother tongue Italian so I sometimes still make mistakes in English. If you have any other suggestion to improve the article please do not hesitate to send me a message. Stefanianj 15:23, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
I just have the one major suggestion -- the biography contains too much detail on the individual films, and this detail would be better placed in the Filmography section. Right now, a reader will think that you are "padding" the Biography sections with detail that is not really about Aliprandi's life (because it's really about the films themselves). I'll be happy to move that material for you as part of my general copy editing, but I won't do it if you don't approve of this approach. Let me know what you think. NewYorkActuary (talk) 14:38, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
@NewYorkActuary: I would appreciate any help you're willing to provide to make the article better. If you think moving some of the writing to the filmography section would make the article better, I have no problem with that. As I said I started this article as a translation from the original Italian article since I had helped with the translation of others. I did not expect I would be involved in re-writing the article. But it has been a great experience learning to do it right. Thanks again. stefanianj
@Stefanianj: Okay. I'll mark the article as "under review", which will alert other reviewers that you and I are actively collaborating on the draft. After I do the editing later today, I'll notify you so that we can discuss the changes. By the way, the signature on your last posting wasn't recognized by the computer as being a signature. I assume that this was because you forgot to capitalise the initial "S" in the name. You can avoid this problem by using the automatic-signature code ~~~~ (i.e., four tildes). Or, you can just click the "Sign your posts on talk pages" button that appears right at the bottom of the edit window. NewYorkActuary (talk) 11:38, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@NewYorkActuary: Thank you! I am learning so much from you. I did not know how to place my signature. I look forward to reading your edits and learning from it. Stefanianj 13:03, 15 April 2017 (UTC) 14:02, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

@Stefanianj: I think the draft is in much better shape now, but I'll defer to your judgment on that. By moving all of the film detail down into the Filmography section (now called "Director credits" because it isn't just films), I was able to free up enough space to give a clear overview of how Aliprandi moved into and out of film and television over the course of his career.

Please check my work for accuracy. I am especially unsure about Il mano. The reference wasn't at all clear as to what year it was done, and I'm not even sure that it was a theater work.

The references could probably be slimmed down, because now that all of the film detail appears in one section, I suspect that some of the references are merely duplicating others. Also, my Google search uncovered some additional English-language sources. Because this is an English-language Wikipedia, it would be better to substitute English sources for Italian. But I think both of these tasks can safely be put off until after the article is published.

I think we probably can get this published tomorrow. I look forward to hearing your comments. NewYorkActuary (talk) 01:11, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

@NewYorkActuary: Thanks so much for the great work you've done. It is no longer a translation of the Italian article. it is way better and it stands by its own merit. I'll look into a reference for the theater work as requested. The only thing I would like to stay that was removed, probably because I did not express it correctly, is the long collaboration Aliprandi had with Pino Donaggio who scored most of his films. I look forward to seeing this article published. Thanks again to take the time to improve it so greatly. Stefanianj 09:51, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@Stefanianj: Thanks for the kind words. I've restored the role of Donaggio to the film section. Also, I found this on YouTube. It looks to be a televised version of La Mano. This doesn't rule out the possibility that it had also been a stage play, but it certainly was televised. Also, take a look at this. Any idea what it is? It looks like a tourism film made by Aliprandi in 1960. NewYorkActuary (talk) 10:39, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@NewYorkActuary: La Mano Indemoniata was part of a mini tv series (6 episodes) for RAI television, 1981 https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_giochi_del_diavolo as you suspected. The Aliprandi's Italian wiki also does not mention that this was a play; it says that it was a television adaptation; to be correct we should consider it as a TV credit. the other video I think is a kind of tourism documentary/promotional video for the Town of Cervia in Romagna on the Adriatic coast. My Mom is from the same area. It talks about Cervia and the first water sky crossing by Rudy Neumann of the Adriatic sea from Pola to Cervia. It was an expedient of the city to bring some notice to the seaside village. That's all. I do not think is worth mentioning it. If I am not wrong I think Aliprandi is from Cervia. For theater I found the following:
But Aliprandi's work in theater goes back to the '60s and it is not easy to find reference online. Stefanianj 12:12, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@Stefanianj: Thanks for doing the extra work. I've added the My Fair Lady credit, which I translated as "co-director". If that translation is in error, feel free to correct it. As for the 1960 tourism film, I agree that it really doesn't fit in anywhere. But it did cause me to modify the discussion of La ragazza, because we now know that it wasn't Alliprandi's very first directing credit (it was his first feature-film credit). It might have been nice to add the tourism film as an External Link, but we can do that only if we are sure that the film is no longer under copyright protection. That can be difficult to determine, and I haven't even tried to find out.

In a few minutes, I'll be publishing the draft. As part of the publication process, you'll receive a computer-generated notice of the publication. I enjoyed working with you and I hope you'll stick around to work on some more articles. NewYorkActuary (talk) 16:17, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

@NewYorkActuary: Thanks so much for the great work. I enjoyed working with you as well. The article looks great and I learned a lot! I am in the process of starting a new article this time from scratch. We may meet again. Stefanianj 09:06, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
