Merge proposal
editA couple of days ago I suggested merging Fareeq el-Fadhel, Fareeq el-Hammam, Fareeq el-Hatab, Fareeq el-Makharqa and Fareeq Mushbir into this article. Ilikecod (talk · contribs) objected, arguing (I think) that those are districts of Manama rather than, as this and those articles say, districts of the souq. I know very little about the topic at hand, and can't find any sources to clarify the issue, but I think Ilikecod's argument against merging contradicts the information in the articles. Ilikecod declined to respond to my concerns on their talk page. Can anyone shed any light on the matter? – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:49, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- I would say, those locations are well connected. They are the (relatively) old neighborhoods of Manama. Fareeq means neighborhood and Souq means market. To me, they are clearly districts of Manama which happen to be located around the souq. However, these neighborhoods are relatively small and I would merge them in one article, but not Manama Souq (perhaps name it Manama old neighborhoods?). If more clarification is needed, just let me know. Mohamed CJ (talk) 21:28, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's really helpful. So are those articles incorrect in saying, for example, "Fareeq el-Fadhel is a district in the Manama Souq"? Shouldn't they instead say, for example, "Fareeq el-Fadhel is a district in Manama"? – Arms & Hearts (talk) 23:48, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- That's correct. Basically, the market has grown so big and many Bahrainis moved from these neighborhoods leaving them to Asians which led to the fading of these names on an official level. At least that's my POV.
- Looking at Google maps, it seems as if Fareeq el-Hammam, Fareeq el-Hatab and Fareeq el-Makharqa are considered as a part of Manama souq (no mention for them at all) and the others have their own names. However, I remember reading a road sign for Fareeq el-Makharqa. Mohamed CJ (talk) 09:25, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm going to step away from this now because I don't think I know enough to be of any use. Thanks again! – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:46, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
