USA isn't Westminster edit

"In many Westminster system governments, there is a convention that maiden speeches should be relatively uncontroversial, often consisting of a general statement of the politician's beliefs and background rather than a partisan comment on a current topic. This convention is not always followed, however; for example the maiden speeches of Pauline Hanson in the Australian House of Representatives and Richard Nixon in the United States House of Representatives broke the tradition."

But the USA doesn't use the Westminster system, so how can Nixon's speech be an example of the tradition being broken? 81.151.41.14 (talk)

List of first maiden speeches following general elections edit

Why should this article have a list of first maiden speeches following general elections for the UK House of Commons? Do secondary sources make such a list? Surely every MP makes a maiden speech at some point; do sources consider it particularly significant that an MP was the first to make a maiden speech following a general election? I don't object to it being a UK-oriented list, as the overall article has that leaning. But you are correct on asking what's so special about the first maiden speech following an election. Senator2029 【talk】 11:46, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
