First Stompbox? edit
Josh Scott of JHS Pedals seems to believe, the Maestro Fuzz-Tone was the first guitar effect in the stompbox format: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUUl0Y1qvuM&t=0m33s (up to 1:13). At least the info at Effects_unit#Studio_effects_and_early_stand_alone_units does not say anything against that theory.

Change of title to "Maestro Fuzz-Tone" (?) edit
I am wondering if we should change the title of this article from "Maestro FZ-1" Fuzz-Tone to just "Maestro Fuzz-Tone"? When I originally created the article I wanted to focus on the original model and its close variant, the FZ-1a. However, in light of the fact that Gibson has now issued the new FZ-M Fuzz-Tone, it may be better to re-frame the article to greater reflect the whole history of the Maestro Fuzz-tone, starting with the original models (the FZ-1 and FZ-1a), and then the subsequent models as as part of the feature, not just as afterthoughts. The one catch is that Maestro's new FZ-M pedal has been released as part of a suite with several other pedals that are non-fuzz, so its story may not be exclusively linear to the Fuzz-Tone history.
