MGM had some noteworthy recordings. It was the first record label to have a soundtrack LP of a movie, which was "Singing in the Rain." Another milestone was the music of German composer and orchestra leader Otto Cesana. The music was an instant hit with radio stations in the United States in the late '40s and into the early '60s. The big production-music sound of Cesana's music would introduce "easy listening" record shows.
Actually, it was "Till the Clouds Roll By" (1946) that marked MGM Records first "soundtrack" release. By the time "Singing in the Rain" came out in 1952 the label had produced a dozen such albums including the million-seller "Show Boat" in 1951. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FrontRowCentre (talk • contribs) 20:28, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
MGM Music edit
MGM Records is defunct. MGM Music was founded by MGM in 1986 to manage the music and music publishing rights which MGM owns. This includes the UA and Orion film libraries. The pre-1986 MGM film output is owned by Time Warner which licensed the music to Rhino Entertainment. The non-soundtrack MGM Records catalog is owned by Universal Music Group. So MGM Music is a separate company not related whatsoever to MGM Records despite its common origin. Non-cited material which does not support this info has been deleted. MGM Records re-established edit

- Are you sure? The MGM/Pye/Pathe Records web site in the above link indicated a new CD by Nicole called "Deck of Cards" but I cannot find an online shop which sells it. Is this legit? Also, I do not see any indication of the trademark owners granting permission to use the trademarks. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office web site at uspto.gov, the MGM Records name is owned by MGM and has been in use in 1994. The UK ipo.gov.uk URL [1] confirms that MGM owns that name for recorded music. The Pye Records and Pathe Records names are not trademarks in the US. But in the UK, ipo.gov.uk indicates at [2] that the Pye trademark for recorded music is still owned by Philips and the Pathe trademark for recorded music is still owned by EMI.
