Blue Flame

What about the blue flames from, say, methane. Methane doesn't burn hot enough to emit blue light due to temperature so it must be something relating to the reaction itself. I'm guessing that as the reactants react to form products in a transition phase the electrons are excited into a higher energy level. As they come back down to a lower energy level as the reaction completes they release the higher energy blue light. It would be nice if a chemist could answer this question (as I have only taken two years of chemistry and that's not really enough to give a great answer). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.113.121.45 (talk) 17:44, 12 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
