Might be worth adding the current controversy related to her article Scandal of life-saving drugs held up by poll in the Express which has received a very harsh response from NICE. Crundy (talk) 10:25, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

It might also be worth adding that this is a reporter that will interview someone and then pretend they said the exact opposite of what they said, making the front page:

No. It would not be worth adding that because of the following. Diane Harper's denials contradict statements she has made in numerous other news publications leading to speculation Harper has been "got at". Diane Harper gave similar quotes to CBS News, US News & World Report, The New York Times, The Alliance for Human Research Protection and others. The most dramatic probably being:-

"Dr. Harper is afraid that the way the vaccine is being presented could actually have the effect of increasing the rate of cervical cancer in the U.S" - Michele Cagan, who interviewed Dr. Diane Harper for the Health Sciences Institute.

"The benefit to public health is nothing, there is no reduction in cervical cancers..."

"... neither physicians nor women should be lulled into a false sense of security [about the vaccine]" - Dr. Diane Harper

"Even if everyone was vaccinated, we would still have cervical cancer. I don't want people to be lulled into thinking this will prevent cancer." - Dr Diane Harper

The result is parents and their children will be led to believe the children are "protected" when they are not.

More disturbing, while the vaccine has been tested for safety in girls as young as 9, there's no ironclad proof that it even works in preteens. "The efficacy trials of this vaccine didn't include anyone under age 16," says gynecologist Diane Harper, a professor of women's and gender studies at Dartmouth College who conducted some of the trials.

Harper said that mandating the vaccine was "a great big public health experiment" because nobody knows for sure just how long the vaccine lasts .. nobody knows whether it will even prevent cancer, she said. For months, Harper stood alone in her criticisms, .... But now, as major medical journals have come out with similar concerns, and as other doctors have spoken up, major print and broadcast media have begun to publicize what Harper said all along.

In a television interview with CBS News in May, Dr. Diane Harper .... said making the vaccination mandatory is "a real danger zone." "The vaccine has not been out long enough for us to have post-marketing surveillance to really understand what all of the potential side effects are going to be," Harper said. "To put in place a process that says you must have this vaccine means that you must be part of a big public experiment and so we can't do that. We can't have that until we have more data."

Dr. Diane Harper .... said the controversial drugs will do little to reduce cervical cancer rates and, even though they're being recommended for girls as young nine, there have been no efficacy trials in children under the age of 15. Dr. Harper .... made these remarks during an address at the 4th International Public Conference on Vaccination which took place in Reston, Virginia on Oct. 2-4. .... participants said they came away convinced the vaccine should not be received. "I came away from the talk with the perception that the risk of adverse side effects is so much greater than the risk of cervical cancer, I couldn't help but question why we need the vaccine at all," said Joan Robinson, Assistant Editor at the Population Research Institute.
