Talk:Lists of television programs with LGBT characters/Archive 1

In the animated section, a lot of the "gay characters" aren't really gay at all. A lot of them are just male characters who fall into gay stereotypes. It's ridiculous. I may go in later and edit them all out, but since I'm new to editing, can someone else do it instead? I don't know if there's any special protocol. I'd want to get rid of all of the shows that have characters who are listed just because they are feminine and edit the ones listed as gay when they should be listed as transgendered.

I have removed Shauna Roberts from Entourage (Debi Mazar). There is no reason to speculate that she is a lesbian. She has a kid at some point as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.201.174.45 (talk) 19:44, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

what about Noah's ark on LOGO?--964267sr 02:03, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Meaning this seriously, how much gay content does there have to be in a TV show before it is a 'gay ' TV show? For example ER and Spin City have major gay characters, but can hardly be classed as 'gay TV'. However in Bablyon 5 it is pretty minimal. Or am I wrong? DJ Clayworth 18:59, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)

I agree, we may need an argument on it... --FallingInLoveWithPitoc 04:59, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)

How about adding information to each show, what circumstance/character makes the show gay? -- 13:21, 24 Jan 2004 (UTC)

What about classifing them? Make some subtitle such as: "homosexual relationship only", "important gay characters" etc? --Yacht (Talk)Q 18:22, Jan 24, 2004 (PST)

I have to agree with others on this, Coronation Street for example has had only had two gay characters in all the 40 years its been on air but is still listed here. I think there should be at least some kind of system where shows can be categorized as gay, Will and Grace definitely, but Coronation Street? I think not. Saint will 19:59, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I was listing due to the way the article was described at the top. I think this article needs to be renamed. Mike H 21:07, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
Hmm.. List of television shows with a gay theme? --Conti| 21:29, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
Nah, because soaps don't have "gay themes", just gay characters and storylines. Maybe list of television shows with gay characters? Maybe even a separate article for predominantly gay shows. Mike H 21:32, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
I like it that there are even minor gay appearances are mentioned in this article, so List of television shows with gay characters might be better, yes. --Conti| 22:02, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
Do you want to move it? I'm in the process of going out. Mike H 22:20, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
Mkay. --Conti| 22:23, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
I believe the renaming of this article solves the dispute, does it not? Davodd 22:54, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)
I thought so to, that's why I've removed the dispute-template already. If anyone has objections to that, feel free to complain. :-) --Conti| 23:03, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)

Thank you, my dispute with this article has been resolved, a simple matter of a page renaming goes along way. Saint will 20:19, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Can somebody add The City? The character of Azure C., played by Carlotta Chang, was transgendered. She was on the show from 1995-1996. I can't figure out the code for the table stuff. It's over my head. RickK 06:17, Oct 8, 2004 (UTC)

I can add her here, but I already have her on List of transgendered people. Mike H 01:33, Oct 25, 2004 (UTC)

Soaps: I seem to recall reading that Emmerdale once had a lesbian storyline, although they may only have done it for sensationalism so it may not count...

How can the role of "Monroe Ficus", played by the great JM J. Bullock, on TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT not be on this page??

I think new layout is more editable and also more readable if there are line breaks within table cells. Opinions? - Srx 6 July 2005 20:44 (UTC)

I'd definately put Actor/Character the other way around (eg. Dorothy Nelson - Brittany Murphy). Other than that, it's great.--195.92.168.163 21:15, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
I would say Dorothy Nelson played by Brittany Murphy. Alison9 04:23, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Question on TransGeneration

Would you put TransGeneration, an episodic documentary under reality based tv-series? or put it on the movies page under documentaries? Alison9 04:23, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

weird edit summary

If anyone is wondering why my edit summary doesn't make sense, I was going through the Wikipedia:Bad links and fixing various problems. I happened to copy and paste something to fix a problem and I forgot that my clipboard changed. My edit summary was supposed to say Bad link repair (You can help!). Sorry about that. -- PS2pcGAMER 10:45, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Shameless

I think thats the correct title. Its a show on SBS (in australia), which has a teenage boy in it who is having a relationship with the male deli owner who he works for. Can someone verify this for me? --Spook (my talk | my contribs) 06:09, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Other Programs with notable LGBT themes or characters

I'm unclear as to why this section is necessary. Some of the shows are already listed in other sections (Buffy for example), and those that aren't probably should be moved either to one of the charts or to the "occasional" section and this section eliminated. Is there some rationale for the section that I'm not seeing? Otto4711 22:25, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Movies

Shouldn't "Boys Don't Cry", "Brokeback Mountain" and "The Laramie Project" be here too?

Boys Don't Cry and BBM are both theatrical releases, so, no. The Laramie Project debuted at Sundance but I'm unsure if it had a theatrical release beyond that. Otto4711 16:32, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Emmerdale

I added Zoe Tate to the list, but don't know much about the character to flesh out the description. --Brideshead 18:41, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

New to Wikipedia

Hello, I was just moved to join and didn't want to make any changes to the entry until I learned a bit more. I have three things:

1) In the new grid layout, maybe we should think about adding a Country column?

2) I would like to make 1 or 2 entries. Both shows are Science Fiction (BBC). One has been rebroadcast in the US on PBS though I don't know if either are available on BBC America or elsewhere yet. I can do some research. Do I really just jump in and start editing the code?

3) One of the shows is "Dr Who" (a long running British SciFi program) that has had many reincarnations. They talk about "Season One of the reinstituted show" sometimes with a note of Season 27. How should I go about figuring out how to note the season numbers?

I will continue my research to get the details. In the meantime, is anyone willing to coach me through this?

Mr. 2 Bon Clay

I raised this issue in a similar category on wiki. As a fan of One Piece, and someone who might be missing some important information, I wonder: did the manga artist, Eiichiro Oda ever submit anything explicitly saying that Mr. 2 is gay? It seems to me that most people are just speculating on his orientation based on his initial mannerisms and means of dress. As far as I am aware, the only canonical explanation for this is that he is a crossdresser, but not truly a gay. If people are making this deduction based on his ballerina attire, that no longer has any bearing, because he has had a continued use in the series with more serious clothing, and he no longer acts so flamboyantly. In addition, it seems his sexual preference can't be determined by these afforementioned things. He doesn't seem to take that kind of interest in the men, but he does slightly flirt with Princess Vivi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ekzotic (talkcontribs) 08:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Skins

Tony is not bisexual, he's just manipulative and self-centered and tries (unsuccessfuly) to do something with Maxxie as a lark.
