Talk:List of service rifles of national armies

Latest comment: 9 years ago by Rezin in topic Merger with Service rifle

Article name

edit

I think this should be List of service rifles of national armies. See WP:NAME. heqs 06:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't it be "List of service rifles of national armed forces" since it includes weapons used by naval & other forces? A Werewolf (talk) 22:10, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Headings

edit

Maybe we should Change the headings to the actual armed forces branches (e.g. United States of america to US Armed Forces) Cannen9

Yes. heqs 10:10, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Alright. I will get Right on that. Cannen9

Example of format I would use:

Finland

edit

This way you can easily list separate armies/different service rifles if necessary

United States

edit

Note that this example is hypothetical, I think the Marines switching to the M4 as main service rifle is still just a plan. heqs 17:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good idea. I will use this, Instead of changing the Countries to the Armed force branches. Cannen9 22:02, 1 August, 2006

Or what we could do is Stick to changing the headings, and compile other armed forces branches into a different article. or not, as I think that most marine branches use the same Rifles as the army branches. This is confusin g me. I don't want to change anything before getting a final answer from all who care. -- Cannen9 00:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Britain

edit

Should the HK A2 be added to Britain's list, or should the SA80 be changed to it. The Service rifle page says that the SA80 is upgraded to the HK A2 for versatility. I'll add it as this: HK A2(modified SA80 for versatility) Cannen9

Albania

edit

Does Albania use The AK-47 rifle or variants, or something else. Pictures from the official website indicate a Variant of the AK-47, But I'm not sure. Cannen9

Scotland

edit

why does this page say that Scotland's service rifle is a SIG 550 shouldn't it be the SA80 better yet why does scotland even have an entry? their apart of Great Britan. --Gw099 04:27, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, scotland has it's own army. So I decided to put it in for this reason.

Greece

edit

Greece does not use the AK-101.The Cypriot National Guard uses the AK-74M(on a small scale) and AKMs are used by the Greek Army for familiarisation, but certainly not for combat and not the AK-101. And there is no Cypriot Army, only the Cypriot National Guard(which mostly uses the G3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.6.112.185 (talk) 20:10, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merger with Service rifle

edit

There's a long-standing proposal to merge this article with Service rifle. See Talk:Service rifle#Merge. I haven't seen any opposition to it and am about to move forward with the merger, but I want to make sure it's acceptable to all active editors before I put in all that work. Please respond at that page if you have any concerns. Rezin (talk) 19:26, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
