Talk:List of former toponyms in Florina Prefecture

Use of Alphaabet/Spelling edit

I changed some names to the Macedonian spelling for consistency with other prefectures in Western Macedonia. However, this is controversial, given that the standard languages Macedonian and Bulgarian are not used regularly in Greece. The places were renamed in the 1920, long before the Macedonian language were standardized, at a time where Bulgarian spelling was used for within the whole Bulgarian/Macedonian language area. If these names are considered historic, then the Bulgarian spelling would be adequate. My preference would definitely be not to use any Cyrillic alphabe in this context, but use only a romanized transcrption, preferably one similar to the Bulgarian one because it is more understandable to the English reader who would not understand diacritics used in the scientific or the Serbian system., without any prejudice of what standard language is appropriate in this case.  Andreas  (T) 21:31, 4 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Slavic place name edit

My correction was reverted with a summary of Bulgariannames I am looking forwards to revert it again since its not concerning Bulgaria nor Bulgarian names. Tu-nor should study where Florina and scientifical use of ISO 9. Manaviko (talk) 22:04, 7 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

You are right, it should be WP:MACEDONIANNAMES. On the other hand, there is nothing that compels us to use scientific ISO-9. The spelling used in official (Republic of) Macedonian transcription is widely used elsewhere in Wikipedia. --T*U (talk) 05:56, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
