I'm starting a discussion page, even though I'm very new to Wikipedia.

I suggest an attempt is made to somehow quantify the total area (square km would be best?) of each forest and also its degree of compactness/fragmentation.

This could allow the introduction of interesting woods -- raises the question when does a wood become a forest?

Th word "interesting" is a value judgement, but frankly I wouldn't want to see kilometre-square blocks of coniferous woods creeping into the list. However, because of their rich biodiversity, broadleaved or mixed woodland may well deserve to be in the list.

This article serves as an index list, so you wouldn't expect too much detail, but an indication of access would be helpful. (National Trust / Wildlife Trust / Forestry Commission / Open Access / embedded rights-of-way, etc). Frankly a private wood or forest is of limited interest.
