Talk:List of cosmetic ingredients

aims of this article edit

  • I started this article because searching for those ingredients is still difficult. Search engines give the "chemical meaning" very easily, but information about purpose is scattered in many different sources. Wiki articles exist for some of those chemicals, but many compounds are just too unimportant to justify an article.
  • Everybody feel free to enter INCI names you come across, no matter if you can add something to the second or third column as well, somebody will be able.
  • I think an article about cosmetic chemistry (or something alike) should be created, to which those descriptions in the last column could be linked.
  • Information on all the different aspects of cosmetics in wiki are quite a mess, if you are interested in helping to improve this, you could have a look at the proposed cosmetics project --Sam195 18:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

cleanup proposals edit

The article was marked in June 2009 as needing cleanup, but with no specific discussion.

I propose to remove the two long descriptions in the rightmost columns of
A - ascorbyl palmitate and
B - shea butter ("Identification of the Substance")

as being both unsourced, and far too long for a "list of" page. Also, at least the shea butter information appears to be a primary source which should be linked to, rather than included verbatim. I could move the ascorbyl palmitate to its own page, if anyone can come up with a reference meeting the standards.

I agree with FMrelay. Even though that material appears as if it comes from a MSDS, it's way too long for the list format of this article. In the near future, I'm going to expand the index to a full alphabetical listing, and then start adding chemicals. I'll probably try to add all the INCI names first, then chemical names, etc. If anyone else wants to help, please keep the information on usage to a bare minimum, and link, link link. Start a new article if you want to say anything more than a few words about an ingredient.Bobzchemist (talk) 21:02, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
