Page organization

edit

Should this page really be broken down by state? Many banks that would merit an encyclopedia article work across state lines rather than working only in a single state. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 12:55, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The National Bank of Georgia

edit

The National Bank of Georgia referred to in this article is different than The National Bank of Georgia. This is most likely an naming issue rather an than a factual innacuracy but either way citation is needed.

Ocean First

edit

What about NJ Ocean First Bank? I'm not sure so I'm not editting the page...

Linkfarm

edit

The external links should be cleaned up per WP:EL, WP:SPAM, WP:NOT#LINK, and WP:LIST. Specifically, links to official bank webpages should be removed. --Ronz (talk) 20:46, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

List inclusion criteria

edit

Until we can agree upon a better list inclusion criteria per WP:LIST, I'm going to edit the article to the generally accepted criteria of only listing entries that have their own articles. --Ronz (talk) 18:28, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Frankly, I think it should be put back up for deletion. I just deleted dozens of excess entries for Bank of America in the various states it operates in; per the criteria at the top of the page, it should ONLY be listed in its home state of North Carolina--though I left the legacy banks (including NationsBank listings in states other than North Carolina), as well as LaSalle Bank in Illinois which is not yet fully merged into BofA. It's just a magnet for mischief, and duplicates Category:Banks of the United States. --RBBrittain (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Failed Bank List

edit

Someone please use the failed bank list to update the list with the defunct banks. I did prob like the first 5 from the last one to fail down. Ill try to get back to it. but if everyone could do a couple it would work out best. -Tracer9999 (talk) 06:18, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nominate for deletion again?

edit

I agree this likely should be put up for deletion again... Half the banks are linked and have no articles attached to them.. banks that are siezed dont seem to be updated and this page in general seems to be sparsly updated. with 8400 or so banks and possibly hundreds that will fail in the next few months.. this job could prove daunting.. when really all this page needs is a link to the FDIC's active bank list. The work is all ready done. This page should prob redirect to banking in the united states with a link to the fdic's active bank list at the bottom of that page. anyone have a problem with me redirecting this page? or if someone would like to nominate this for deletion.. that would work and I would agree.. what do you all think? -Tracer9999 (talk) 06:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I strongly agree. This page is a mess, and even worse, it is useless. A link to the FDIC site from Banking in the United States would provide a much more comprehensive list of all banks in the United States. If a Wikipedia user is looking for a list of banks with Wikipedia articles, they can check out Category:Banks of the United States. Go ahead and redirect, if there are no objections.
