Talk:List of U.S. states and their state flower, tree, and bird/Archive 1

This is a great concept for an article, I like it. Good job, GHe! --Kitty the Random 01:21, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. Now I know that I'm at least on the right track. :) G.He 01:58, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Images

I'm planning to use add pictures to depict some of the items on the list (definitely not all of them...). The categories should be alternating (I.e. flower, tree, bird, flower, tree, bird, etc...). If anyone has good suggestions for good pictures, please post it on this page. Then, the best images can be chosen for the article. G.He 02:03, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Already added some pics, more may be included. G.He 00:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Note

This is just a note to editors: Please do not put the {{USStateLists}} tag or overcategorize the article yet as it is currently half-done and hasn't been revised... It would look really bad if a large audience visited it right now... Once it's ready for the general public (or at least decent enough (I.e. ~>75% done)), then the tags should go on. G.He 03:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Or should we state that it's currently under construction should we tag it now? G.He 03:58, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Almost done... G.He 23:30, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Done! G.He 01:49, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Flags

I recently added flags to the states, and if anyone can give me some feedback, I'd appreciate it. G.He 00:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Does anyone think that this list will ever make featured status? G.He 03:23, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Nominated... Now that's left is to wait... G.He 01:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Redundant?

This list is redundant to the individual lists for flower, tree and bird - see Lists of U.S. state insignia. This is very pretty, however. I would strongly recommend taking as many as possible of the good points from this list into those other lists, and then either deleting this one or turning it into a disambiguation page - keeping redundant lists is in general a terrible idea, as it is one more thing to keep up-to-date, cleaned up, and to keep in line with other articles (e.g. if some people start to add references for the legislation that made state birds official, it would be silly for some references to be added to one list and others to be added to the other - that sort of thing should be happening in one place!). There's no especially compelling reason to combine flowers, trees and birds - mammals, butterflies, insects, reptiles, amphibians and a host of other species also act as state insignia, and this particular triplet seems arbitrary. Having said all that, this list has been very well put together. If the editors involved could spend some time improving the (not especially brilliant) state insignia articles we have already, then I am sure they would show a fantastic improvement and would likely become featured themselves. I must confess: I so did not realize that this already existed in other lists :(..... Well... having said that, a disambig page would be the best choice... This also proves the point that a fair amount of articles may not be found when someone searches, thus resulting in undesired consequences, as in this case.... I only wish that this was discovered earlier in the beginning. :(
Having said that, I might look at some other Insignia lists and try to see if they can be further improved. Thanks for the very helpful (but disappointing :() comment. I really appreciate that someone found this out before it can get worse. :S G.He 03:06, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
