Garnett and White

Two sixteenth century RC priests were at Winchester, Henry Garnett, the Jesuit plotter, and Bishop John White. I've put them on the list but for some reason they don't appear in the Article. Can anyone help? Ausseagull (talk) 07:09, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Sortable list format

This list could be made more powerful, & probably more useful, by making it sortable by year or surname. See the prototype on my user page. Points to consider:

• Why not amalgamate the centuries? It seems rather arbitrary to classify GH Hardy—to take but one example—under 19th century, given that his important work was done in the 20th.

• By standardizing the terms used under Profession, it would be possible to group together OWs who have worked in the same field.

William Hayter

My attempts to get Sir William, described as "The Wykehamist's Wykehamist", on the list have proved unsuccessful. I'm not sure why. Millbanks (talk) 23:21, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Post-nomials

The comment "Former pupils of Winchester College are known as Old Wykehamists and as such are able to include 'OW' in any list of post-nominal letters. " is crazy. For two reasons:

• Anyone can put anything at all after their name. It may not be recognized or acknowledged by anyone else, but so? Maybe I will start signing myself OW, meaning Old Wellingtonian. If you want to interpret that as meaning something less complementary, keep it to yourself.
• is there any evidence that anyone ever does this outside of the college? Did G H Hardy add OW to his FRS? I doubt it. Should Lieutenant Gustavus Hamilton Blenkinsopp Coulson VC DSO really be VC, DSO, OW? Gordon Findlay (talk) 08:43, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Omissions resulting from technical problem

As two other users have noticed, people who have been added are not showing up. This could be a result of incorrect code. Glancing through, some people have typed '-- >' instead of the correct ' -->' which might be causing Wikipedia to include swaths of the list in the undisplayed date tag ( * ). So if, in future, anyone else finds their entries aren't showing up, do a search and replace, substituting ' -->' instead of '-- >'.
