(Dr) Phil Hammond

I remember the same Dr Phil Hammond being on the show in earlier years. I recently changed the latest addition to the list to the name already on the list (simply Phil Hammond) but that got changed back. I wasn't aware of another (politician) Phil Hammond before, and the list discriminates between them only once, so I guess another correction is in order. --JeR 22:11, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I looked up Phil Hammond MP from the biography linked from http://www.parliament.uk/directories/hciolists/alms.cfm#H. He's definitely not the Dr Phil Hammond who appeared on this weeks programme, and yes I suspect the earlier entry should be switched over too, as I too remember Dr Phil Hammond appearing on an earlier programme. BruceRD 23:36, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)

The remnants of www.hignfy.net I can find at www.archive.org imply that all four Phil Hammonds to have appeared (series 15, 19, 25 and 28) are the same man, and they're all the doctor. Kinitawowi 00:43, Nov 1, 2004 (UTC)

So who feels he/she has enough authority on the subject of Dr Phil Hammond to change the entries? It's not even a major change. --JeR 22:37, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Done! --JeR 19:47, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

First episode

It's listed here as 29 September 1990, but the book The BBC: 70 Years of Broadcasting by John Cain gives the date as 28 September, which is seven days before the next edition. I suspect the 29 is a typo (or a literatim copy of a typo in some other source), unless anyone knows better. --Q4 11:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

The original copy of this page seems to have been copied from TV Tome (now TV.com), which still says 29/09/90, but I agree that this doesn't look likely. UK Game Shows, the IMDb and the HIGNFY.net fan site all say 28/09/90, so I strongly suspect that's right. — sjorford (talk) 14:34, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Spoilers

I suggest that this article be tagged for 'spoilers', given that it apparently reveals who has won tomorrow night's as-yet unbroadcast episode!

Edit: And now thanks to the comment above, I even know the score. Conrad1on 01:36, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Have I Got Buzzcocks All Over

Contrary to what it says in the article, Stephen Fry was NOT in the chair.

Angus was in the chair, with the Buzzcocks team consisting of Phill Jupitus, Sean Hughes and Roisin Murphy and the TTIAO team comprising Stephen Fry, Nick Hancock and David Gower.

I would alter this myself, but I'm not great with changing tables... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.19.114.0 (talk) 08:28, 13 April 2007 (UTC).

Maybe a stupid question

But does every single panellist need to be linked? Perhaps their first appearance should but every single one seems to be overkill.

I'd rather not make the change myself without consulting opinion so what do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Agent452 (talkcontribs) 00:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Series 34 7th/14th December

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/guests/wk49.shtml

This page from the BBC reports that on the 7th of December the host will be Jack Dee, yet someone keeps changing it to Jeremy Paxman. Also the week 50 page shows that Richard Madeley will be hosting the episode on the 14th, yet someone keeps blanking it. Can they cite their sources please? Sfxdude (talk) 14:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Corrections

In the case that the score was deliberately changed (like Dr Phil Hammond's recent appearance) shouldn't the result be changed back? Nemesis646 (talk) 06:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Debolding the references section

Could someone better versed in wikiformatting debold and decentralise the references section please? Ged UK (talk) 22:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Brian Blessed guest appearance

As Brian Blessed made a surprise guest appearance in the Christmas highlights show, could we please add him to the Series 36 list as "Special Guest" like Germaine Greer was at one point? For a more knowledgeable and relaxed Wikipedia- Nemesis646 (talk) 22:23, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Added in the most unintrusive way possible. :) LicenseFee (talk) 22:39, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

New series

Will people please stop deleting entries without even checking their validity? I noticed last night that someone had correctly added Julian Clary as being the host for this Friday's episode, yet this morning that entry has been deleted. A quick 10 second look at the BBC Press Office page (referenced twice in this section) will show that the Beeb have indeed announced that Julian will be hosting on Friday 25th April and hence that entry is correct.

I've no problem with people removing unfounded details, but please check that they are unfounded first before removing them! Trippynet (talk) 08:08, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I believe the reasoning behind the removals is that, right up until filming, the line-up could easily change — it's not that the sources are invalid, rather that they could be made invalid by the show itself. So removing details of unaired episodes is us trying to ensure we're not wrong DBD 10:19, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I see your point, however once the details have been announced by the BBC's own press office, I think that's enough for them to be added. After all, they can be amended should the line-up change at all. My query was also because the 2 guest's names had been left in place and only the host's name removed. Trippynet (talk) 17:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
My point is that people shouldn't have to hunt for the reference. I've been reverting alot recently, and only now have i actually seen Clary on the press office page. My point is the reference attached went to a page that didn't confirm it. It doesn't take a moment to put an accurate reference in Ged UK (talk) 18:40, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I've seen no source indicating Julian is presenting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.107.246 (talk) 16:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Series 37

8 episodes are confirmed, anyone want to edit the column to acknowledge this? I've tried and failed. v_v

In previous examples, we've kept it at the length of the aired episodes and only added a new line when a guest or guest host is announced on the BBC Press Page. If you have a citation, add 'Series 37 will begin to air on ___ and will contain 8 episodes' at the top. That'll probably do. LicenseFee (talk) 21:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Well it's being touted in all the TV guides. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.107.246 (talk) 21:54, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Reduce the size of the page

To reduce the size, I've place "bgcolor="ddffdd"" at the start of the table, so every episode that Paul won has his colour by default (no bgcolor at the start of the section), so when Ian wins or if it is a draw, then a bgcolor is needed at the start of the section. I hope everyone is happy with this. --Panel Guy (talk) 22:59, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Series 39

According to the online edition of the Radio Times, HIGNFY is not being shown on 29th May because of the third Election debate. ISD (talk) 16:42, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

S39 E05

The result of this show was disputed. It was marked by a brief period of coalition quizzing and switching of teams. Hislop openly questioned Paul's win. I would mark it as a disputed result. 13djb13 (talk) 20:40, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Footnotes and references

I've split up the footnotes and references sections, which were previously lumped together - hope this was OK. I couldn't figure out how to put the Christmas and Election special notes into the footnotes section without breaking the coding, though - sorry about that. Cwmxii (talk) 17:30, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

I've sorted the Christmas and election special notes, they now appear in the footnotes section. --Panel Guy (talk) 17:40, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Series 40 episode 11

According to @bbcHIGNFY on Twitter, episodes 10 is the last episode of the series. Mrblobbyandahalf (talk) 18:45, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

No Episode 11 is the christmas special, so technically it might be but there is a special episode after the series ends —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.151.78.156 (talk) 13:28, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Series sections

Wondering if, as an aesthetic choice, we should split the series up into different tables (as per List of Would I Lie to You? episodes or List of 8 out of 10 Cats episodes). The Torode/Wallace hosting thing is making the 'host' box look needlessly stretched. Cwmxii (talk) 14:27, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Colour coding

Trivial thing but can the colours in the tables showing who won not be coloured red and blue for Ian and Paul's team as used on the show? 86.169.112.221 (talk) 22:03, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

I know this is an old one, but it might be better for accessibility - red/green is a common colour blindness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.87.179.62 (talk) 10:04, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Score Depreciation

It seems that the scores decrease as the programme goes on. Given the section on scores at the bottom of the article, would this be an observation worth making? I have graphed the effect on the average score for each programme - if someone could make something like this in a form that could be used in the article it would probably be better than just uploading this one: HIGNFYScoresSE1-SE44.PNG -- 213.105.186.124 (talk) 03:18, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Colour of rows

I agree with the edit made by User:HHHH. This is a list article so the ease of reading line for line is not as important as clarity and distinction between winner and draw. I have reverted to HHHH's edit and lightened the shade of red for Ian wins. Maybe this should be put to a vote, discussed or just left for a while to see how it goes down over a few days at least before mindlessly reverting by anonymous user (User:2.96.175.45). --Lead holder (talk) 20:54, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

I believe the old colours looked better --2.96.175.45 (talk) 06:21, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
You all do realise that the competition format is nothing more than a mcguffin, right? The whole point of the show is to have a laugh and poke fun at politicians – no one actually cares who wins, and they never have. WAY too much weight is given to colouring of the rows. I say get rid of the colours altogether. BigSteve (talk) 11:03, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Series overview

The series overview denoting who won which series was done in good faith, and I'm sure it did indeed take up a lot of time so I'm loathe to revert it right away... but I think it takes up *way* too much space at the beginning of the article. Any suggestions for making it more aesthetically pleasing, or could it be moved to the main Have I Got News for You article? Cwmxii (talk) 22:17, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Series 7, Episode 4 (May 13th 1994)

Tony Hawks was a late replacement for Labour MP Diane Abbott, who was scheduled to appear on the show at that date. However, John Smith, the Labour Party leader, died on the 12th May of a heart attack, so Diane, understandably, withdrew from HIGNFY. I feel this should be added as a note, but does it merit inclusion?

Why not use the name Episodes list of Have I Got News For You or List of Episodes of I Got News For You? --Yacht 12:44, Mar 7, 2004 (UTC)

How about List of Have I Got News For You episodes? fabiform | talk 13:45, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The only other episode lists that I could find on Wikipedia are List of Star Trek DS9 episodes, List of Star Trek TNG episodes, and List of Star Trek: Enterprise episodes. Although they are all Star Trek, they probably provide a precedence case, and so I'm going to move this to List of Have I Got News For You episodes. — Timwi 14:49, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I originally called it "Have I Got News For You episode list" because of "The Simpsons episode list", but now thats been moved to "List of The Simpsons episodes" so I agree with moving it here. Saul Taylor 00:34, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Comic Relief

[2] gives a list of people who were on the 2001 comic relief show, but doesn't say who the chair was (Angus?) or whose teams the guests were on. fabiform | talk 14:43, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)

It would have been Angus as it was before his fall from grace. Mintguy (T) 07:34, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Future history

I have commented out the hosts and guests who are supposed to appear in upcoming programmes. We should only list people who have been on the programme. As we know from the Tub of Lard's appearance, people who are supposed to appear on the programme don't always do so. -- Oliver P. 20:40, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Good call as it turns out - Jerry Hall was obviously washing her hair or something. sjorford 20:53, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Referencing in this article

To what extent is this list "well supported by references to secondary sources"? There are only 2 citations on this page: should this article not have a good deal more, say one or two for each episode which contains the host/guests/score? Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:10, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Otherwise, of course, everything is unsourced and it all gets expanded with no sources by wiki-fiddlers... Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:13, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Series 65, Episode 4

It was originally going to be Helen Lewis with Ian Hislop. The "HIGNFY" Facebook page showed a clip of tonight's episode (they do this occasionally), but the contestant with Ian was CLEARLY NOT Helen. I couldn't tell if it was Camilla Long or Emma Barnett, as they could be taken for twins(!). Also, this page had Helen Lewis as Ian's partner. However, "HIGNFY" as amended the text accompanying the clip, crediting Camilla Long, so I've changed the entry correspondingly. I suspect Helen had to withdraw at short notice.
