Where could I get those provincial flags?

It is the very first time that I have seen that the provinces (and the islands) have flags. Is it true? If so, where could I get a drawing of them and the laws about them? --66.98.79.188 15:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure of those flags?

Are you sure that those flags are official or is it something that you thought that it would be nice to draw? The explanations are very interesting but they seems to have been written for children. And, why are there flags for the regions and the islands? Those regions are not official and so those flags do not represent anything; the islands are not independent and they are part of provinces so they are represented, in any case, by the flags of their provinces? --Pepemar2 (talk) 22:11, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I repeat that we need more official information about those flags: were they created by laws or decrees? Or have you imagined what to draw? Where to get official information about those flags? And, why that flag for the Hermanas Mirabal province (the old province of Salcedo), created long before the death of the sisters? And the same for La Romana province, with a castle that you say is Altos de Chavón but the province is older than the private enterprise Altos de Chavón. --Pepemar2 (talk) 00:13, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

The explanation given for the colors, stripes and other aspects of the designs are childish and, often, with false information. For example, in the Azua province says that the two stripes represent the 2 provinces that were created with territory of Azua: Benefactor and José Trujillo Valdéz. And Barahona? And the José Trujillo Valdéz was created with territory of the Trujillo Province, at least the portion that correspond to the present Peravia province. --Pepemar2 (talk) 01:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I think that you have to give some references regarding these flags because it seems that all of them were created by a person and not by law so those flags are useless and very confusing. Dependencies do not have flag (most of them without people living there) and those regions are geographical regions but administrative ones; why those flags? I repeat that those images were drawed (and imagined!) by a single person and they should be eliminated unless there is an official reference (law, decree). I Agree with you Pepemar2, even Matías Ramón Mella Province, wich not exist supposly have a flag, so I am nominating the whole article for clean up! And of course deleting the information regarding to Matías Ramón Mella Province. Oscar987 04:33, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Province

The province Matias Ramon Mella do NOT exist. Even with congressional aproval, the president returned the project. There is NOT any official information about this province. Please remove the province, maps, flags and everything around it. Oscar987 04:33, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Suspect

I believe that at less part of this flags are untrue. I'm vexillologist, i was in Dominican Republic visiting four privinces and the capital and I can't found any trace of this provincial flags, but seems that each capital provincial flag was used de facto (always unofficially) as provincial flag. Any of the capitals I visited has a flag like the ones pictured here. I was also in some beaches of Saona island and has no flag hoisted except the state flag. About Altos de Chavon, certainly was created later than the province, but now is the main interest site and is possible that appeat in a modern flag, but in this case the pictured image don't have a image of Altos de Chavon but has the Bellver castle in Balearic islands, same as appear in the islands flag. But the most suspect think is that there's several flags reproducing other real flags. Province of Bello Despertar flag is identic (exact) that Departament of Lavalleja (Uruguay) only changing the writen inscription; Samana is identic that flag of Yaracuy state, but mirrored and using blue white blue instead red, white, blue, and even CENTRAL EMBLEM IS THE SAME (that is impossible!!!!), San Juan de la Maguana is identical to the Cabanas departament of El Salvador. Several others are very close to latinamerican subdivisions or other subdivisions flags in the world. The singles flag of the list I see in the country, are the so calle naval jack (probably in fact is the Navy flag) and Santo Domingo de Guzman city flag, but the first one, as pictured, must be and old or wrong version, because currently the stars are 32 and white disk with arms is smaller (I have a photo). I suggest move this page to "Proposals for Dominican flags" at less that author can provide photos or legislation.--88.15.51.13 (talk) 20:00, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Problems with provincial flags

Here are some points that must be answered about the validity of the provincial flags, taking in account the comments by 88.15.51.13 on 5 February 2009.

  1. Some flags have changed a lot from the first version to the last one. For example, Azua, Barahona, La Romana, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Monte Plata, Samaná, San José de Ocoa (only colors in this case), San Juan de la Maguana and Valverde.
  2. After the comment of 88.15.51.13, the Discussion page was blanketed and some flags were radically changed: Azua, La Romana, San Juan de la Maguana.
  3. In some cases, (Samaná, San Juan de la Maguana) two versions were offered the same day, 9 February 2009
  4. There are only two references: one for Azua, with a link to a website of the Azua city not the province, and another for Sánchez Ramírez. In this last case, I suspect that in this website the copy a flag found in Wikipedia; if it is so, then it is not a valid reference. And the external is for the national flag, not provincial flags.

Because of this, I do not think that these flags are valid; they seem to be created by a person, not by the institution that they try to represent. And besides, why are these flags not present in other versions of Wikipedia, in Spanish for example. --Pepemar2 (talk) 00:26, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Note: The user responsible for these flags, about which so much doubt has been expressed, has been contacted on his/her own talk page and asked to provide references. So far the user has given no indication that s/he intends to do so. Wholesale removal of these flags appears inevitable. SamEV (talk) 00:55, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

City flags

I'm wondering about the city flags, too -- they don't give any indication of where the uploader got the information necessary to create the flags. Powers T 01:08, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
