Historic Debt Project - Non payment of court fines

edit

"In September 2016 HMCTS set up the Historic Debt Project to tackle outstanding debt which has accumulated over the years from unpaid criminal fines and financial orders where debtors could not previously be traced. With the benefit of new intelligence and tracing tools, outstanding debts up to 10 years old are being pursued by a dedicated team in the HMCTS National Compliance and Enforcement Service."

In light of recent creation of the government's Historic Debt Project it might be worth noting in this article...

Is a court fine is over 6 years old…is it statute barred? No. As Magistrate Court fines are criminal matters they are not subject to the Limitations Act and neither can they be included in either a bankruptcy, an IVA or a Debt Relief Order (DRO).
