Queens of the Stone Age edit

Their first release was If_Only_Everything in 1996 on Man's Ruin (under the name Gamma Ray).
Their second was Kyuss/Queens_of_the_Stone_Age in 1997 on Man's Ruin.
Their third was The Split CD in July 1998 on Man's Ruin.
Three releases before their fourth on Loosegroove Records. Duffbeerforme (talk) 11:09, 10 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Those were different bands that contained a revolving door of SOME of the same members, and under different band names prior to the emergence of QOTSA, but NOT QOTSA. QOTSA's self titled debut album, released Sept 22, 1998 was on Loosegroove Records. This is documented on the bands official website, the bands Wiki page, allmusic.com, anywhere and everywhere there is official information about QOTSA releases. If what you are saying is true then Mother Love Bone was the first official Pearl Jam album? Or Green River was the first Pearl Jam album? Or anything Ed Vedder did musically prior to Pearl Jam is in fact Pearl Jams debut release? Because some of the members were the same? This makes no sense.

This from ALLMUSIC.com:

Instead of trying to recreate the sound of his former band Kyuss, Josh Homme took a new approach to music. He crafted tight hard rock songs that were heavy on melody and light on vocals. While there is still a lot of fuzz coming from the amplifiers, the vocals are softly interwoven among the chords. There's no screaming or rock & roll antics, and the group takes an almost lo-fi attitude to heavy metal — an interesting combination that produced instant radio gems like "Regular John," the extreme ranges on "Avon," and the smoky, blues-influenced "Walkin' on the Sidewalks." Queens of the Stone Age are creating a new blend of heavy metal that makes it acceptable to produce creative music that doesn't rely on testosterone as the driving force.

The second and third releases were both released under the name Queens of the Stone Age, not under another name. Gamma Ray is the same band as QOTSA, the name had to be changed because of another band called Gamma Ray. The name was the only thing that changed. Your Pearl Jam strawman is an enirely different situation.
The allmusic says nothing about this subject.
The listing from the qotsa web site is a listing of their full length releases, not all their releases.
