Choosing a title

edit

As this organisational form in the labour movement has several names, it was difficult deciding which to use as the primary title. I decided that Labour council was perhaps the broadest title and similar enough to labor council used in the USA, and placed a redirect from Trades Council to it. If anyone thinks my choice of title needs changing, I suggest your arguments are stated clearly on this page, so that they may be debated, and hopefully come to a consensus for the best and most appropriate term to avoid unnecessary redirects. The other way around this problem would be to have articles for each particular term which seemed to me very inefficient and a duplication of effort. --Takver 06:01, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Industrial Council

edit

This term was utilised for several years in the 1920s in Australia, with perhaps the best example being the Barrier Industrial Council still active today, however it was also used for other labour federations such as the Brisbane Industrial Council and Newcastle Industrial Council. In the USA it was used for early labor federations such as the Industrial Council of Troy, first federation of Troy unions, formed 1873[1]; and Kansas City Industrial Council formed in 1898.[2] --Takver 16:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
