La voragine, is not spanish...

edit

the vortex translated to Spanish, would be "el vortice", La voragine sounds more French or Portuguese, but for sure it is not Spanish. maybe the title in Columbia is la voragine, but it is not written in Spanish . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.141.200.26 (talk) 00:34, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is Spanish: https://porrua.mx/libro/GEN:9789700750293/la-voragine/jose-eustasio-rivera/9789700750293

José Eustasio Rivera was born in Colombia in 1888, and "La Vorágine" is the title of the book. It was then translated into English with the title "The Vortex", which is a poetically acurate translation of the original title. "Dr. Jose E. Rivera, Author, Dies Here. Colombian Was Writing English Edition of His Novel 'La Voragine'. Prominent Diplomat". New York Times. December 2, 1928. La Vorágine is Spanish.

edit

Although google translate may have misled you with a poor translation of vortex to vortice, vorágine is indeed a Spanish word. Though it may sound French or Portuguese (because along with Italian all 4 mentioned are related - romance languages) as evidenced below from the authority in Spanish, the definition of vorágine in Spanish fits very well to the plot and writing style of Rivera's novel.

vorágine Del lat. vorāgo, -ĭnis. 1. f. Remolino impetuoso que hacen en algunos parajes las aguas del mar, de los ríos o de los lagos. 2. f. Pasión desenfrenada o mezcla de sentimientos muy intensos. 3. f. Aglomeración confusa de sucesos, de gentes o de cosas en movimiento. Real Academia Española © Todos los derechos reservados

edit

Both answers to the prompt that started this discussion suffice to resolve the issue, in particular the RAE dictionary entry, confirming that "vorágine" is in fact a Spanish word. Based on that, I proceed to remove the NPOV dispute template message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biornatus (talkcontribs) 02:20, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
